Godelan's Haven
Historical
In the Time before the flood, a massive Empire ruled by The Sorceress Empress Aurorax was governed from the highland of her Domain. Not pleased with all the might she already possessed she devised a plan to achieve god-hood, setting her intent on the domain of the Ocean. If she would've succeeded the world would've looked quite different. The Gods, most prominently Umberlee, goddess of The Sea, weren't too keen on those meddling mortals invading their realms. So in an attempt to bring an end to her Aspirations, the gods sendThe Years of Rain and when that proved not enough The Great Flood .The Years of Rain
It started with a drizzle which quickly developed into torrential rain which swept throughout the lands of the Empress for two years (2 QAD), during which crops and lands were ruined. This led to a food shortage, and pestilence soon followed. Yet it worked, as the rituals of the Empress, which relied on open flames were, at least temporarily thwarted. With all the water falling from the skies, the water level slightly rose, and many were forced to find higher ground, a warning for things to come. Yet the years of hunger had caused a shift in the devotion of the gods, as many once loyal to the Sea-goddess flocked to other faiths, with many others abandoning the beings which has caused them so much damage. This exodus significantly reduces the power of the gods, creating a more equal distribution yet that was overall weaker. It seemed the gods had won until the Empress, seemingly in league with a higher power, managed to erect The Barrier to keep the water away from her ritual site. The gods were not as easily defeated, and once more the gods united their strength, this time focusing their might right on her doorstep with hail, storm, and rain hammering down of the lands we know today as Godelan's Haven, yet The Barrier prevailed. With the water from before and the additional flood, much of the lowlands south of Godelan's Haven was completely submerged, reducing the livable land even more. The Great Flood
Mere hours before completing her ritual, the gods, seeing no other option send the flood, which fell from the skies right on top of The Barrier which didn't stand a chance and shattered. Leaving the palace a plaything of the unrelenting water, and was dragged, along with the ritual site, the Empress as well as large chunks of her palace down towards the great lake south downhill. This area we know now as The Rotten Abyss. Leaving only the water swept remains of her grand hall, surrounded by the ruin of the Barrier, as a grim reminder of the might of the gods. The sheer volume of water falling from the skies in the event caused the already raised water level to swelter once more submerging everything but the highlands.A New Age
When the Empress was defeated, the rain finally stopped and for the first time in four years the people could see the sun once again, yet the water remained. Those who managed to escape the flood eventually found shelter on the high-lands, now turned island. Many of the Empress' subjects, now free of her reign, arrived at the Godelan's Haven, the highlands at the hearth of the former empire. Now
After the Flood (See History of Demergion) the races that now inhabit Godelan's Haven arrived on the Island, seeking a refuge from their watery fate. Initial hopeful that the water would drain away, now, after 65 years, many have resigned themselves to this new world.Nations
