The Order of the Emerald Moon

Hidden deep within the mist-covered Emerald highlands, the Order of the Emerald Moon is an ancient, secretive guild of dark wizards. For centuries, they have thrived in the shadows, mastering the darker aspects of magic while maintaining a watchful eye over the land they quietly control.

The Emerald Moon's Power

The wizards of the Emerald Moon wield magic considered dark or forbidden. They manipulate minds, summon shadowy creatures, and bend nature to their will. Curses, necromancy, and blood magic are tools they use to maintain their influence. Discretion has been key to their survival, acting from behind the scenes and rarely revealing their true nature to the world. They possess a unique form of magic linked to the emerald stone, said to hold the ancient magic of the Celtic gods. This power allows them to weave enchantments that protect their order from discovery, cloak their strongholds in secrecy, and channel destructive forces when needed.

Structure

The Head Master, mostly in title only, leads the guild. The Emerald Moon is a collective of equals, with each member powerful in their own right. Membership requires proven skill in the dark arts and a willingness to do whatever is necessary to maintain power.
While not truly evil, members are ruthless, calculating, and ambitious. They understand that preserving the land ensures their continued rule. The guild's private council, known as The Circle of Shadows, leads its operations. They meet under the full moon in a secluded glen, surrounded by ancient stone circles said to enhance their magic. Here, they plan their influence, orchestrate events, and eliminate threats, both magical and mundane.

Public Agenda

While playing the submissive in front of the Council, the Emerald Moon still thrives, working behind the scenes to maintain their subtle grip on the Emerald Lands. Their ultimate goal remains the same—to preserve their land, maintain control, and keep the balance of power firmly in their favor. And as long as the moon rises over the emerald hills, their dark influence will continue to shape the fate of the world.

History

Born from a time of great strife, when the lands were plagued by war and famine, the Order emerged from a group of powerful sorcerers, outcasts due to their dangerous knowledge. With a single purpose—to use their mastery of the arcane to shape the world as they saw fit—they banded together.
Unlike other orders devoted to justice or peace, the Emerald Moon sought power. They believed control was the key to order, and magic was the greatest tool to achieve this dominance. However, they were not mindless agents of chaos. Understanding that a stable land, with obedient yet alive people, was necessary for effective rule, they aimed to preserve it.
They saw themselves as the unseen rulers of the Celtic lands, not guardians of freedom, but of control. Stability was paramount, even if it required cruelty. Their motto became, "Better to rule in the dark than serve in the light."

Foreign Relations

Enemies and Allies: Throughout the centuries, the Emerald Moon has clashed with various forces. The virtuous mages of other orders, like the Emerald Dawn, consider them an abomination. However, the Emerald Moon sees them as naive idealists. Despite their differences, there have been times when the two factions have formed uneasy alliances, particularly when a greater threat endangered the entire land. The Emerald Moon has no desire to see their kingdom fall to invaders, monstrous creatures, or darker forces beyond their control.

Ethics

A Dark Yet Pragmatic Code: Despite their ruthless methods, the Order is not driven by madness or pure evil. They are deeply pragmatic, operating under a strict code: "The land must live for us to rule." This code forbids unnecessary destruction or chaos, ensuring the world they seek to control remains stable. Their cruelty has limits; they are not conquerors who burn the world, but stewards who wish to exploit it.While many members are morally ambiguous, there is an unspoken understanding among them—what they do is not for the love of power itself, but for the preservation of their way of life. They believe in their role as rulers from the shadows, ensuring that no one else can seize control and destroy the delicate balance they have cultivated.
