Hijuro

"By the Hydro Lord's divine intervention, my parents became human. So I am now in his debt."
— Narojan, a Kujikai Settler
Hijuro are the Spirits of the water and are often called Water Fairies. They live in Maridago but close enough to the Great Forest to explore when in their humanoid form. Like other Fairies, they dream of coming onto land, to feel what it is like to be human. Despite their general curiosity, Hijuro are still very powerful, with their powers directly linked to the ancient Hydro Dragon. In fact, almost everything involving the Hijuro can be linked back to the Hydro Dragon.

Anatomy

Hijuro can have two forms: a humanoid and an Oceanid form. Their Oceanid form resembles the body of a dragon, specifically, the Hydro Dragon, who is considered the "Prime Oceanid". The Hydro Dragon himself has webbed wings, fins and gills, like many sea animals. The Hijuro have similar features to the Dragon, the only difference being they are much smaller and weaker than the dragon.   Hijuro cannot stay above water for long, as they cannot really breathe air. So they don't swim close to the surface. However, Hijuro strongly dream of being human, too. In fact, it is often said that the will of the water is to be human.   So in the past, the Hydro Dragon granted some Hijuro their wish of being humanoid. The humanoid Hijuro look a lot like regular mortals, except they have blue skin and thin but flowing hair, like seaweed. Their hands and feet are webbed so they can swim efficiently in water, and their necks have slits for gills. When in water, their slits open so they can absorb oxygen effectively.   The Hydro Dragon separated the humanoids from the Hijuro and allowed them to evolve live like mortals. These Hijuro followed the sea animals already in the water and adapted to be humanoid versions of them. Over many years, they became their own species and connected themselves to the aquatic animals around them.   Today, the aquatic humanoids of Maridago populate the seas. The Hijuro allow them to travel and limit themselves to the Great Forest, near the other Fairies.
