The Undying Lands

Loci

Loci are structures that snag the Undying Lands and hold it in place for a time. These could be standing stones, moon gates, fairy circles, or other structures int the Mortal Realm that attune with the Undying Lands and hold it in place for a time. They don't always connect to the Undying Lands, they just snag it as it passes. As such they don't always connect to the same location in the Undying Lands. Those with Fae Pacts may attempt to create Loci in the Mortal Realm, but where they connect to the Undying Land may move about.

The Undying lands are a plane that sits between the Mortal Realm and the Astral Sea. It does not connect to all places in theMortal Realm at all times, but more shifts and slides over it like oil over water. Neither does it keep time with the Mortal Realm, time may pass faster or slower depending where in the Undying Lands you are. Its strongest connection is on Baeon as the Pactmages have put the most effort in creating Loci to connect on their Fae patrons.

The Undying Lands are called that because one cannot permanently die within them. Any creature who dies will eventually reform, possibly in another form, in exchange for some of the memories of their previous life. Powerful fae, especially those who have bound the creature through oath to them, can dictate the form the creature is reborn into. Creatures from the Mortal Realm are more resistant to the power of the Undying Lands and will age as normal, until they die in the lands. Once this occurs they become a native of the plane.

The Courts

The Fae Courts are organized around one or more fae that embody a concept. They become avatars of those concepts as they become raised to the Court's Royalty. As land has no meaning and a powerful fae can conjure what they have the will to imagine, they measure they strength of their realms by what subjects they can attract or bind to them.

Bonds

The Undying Lands are held together by oaths that bind a creature to another. The more bonds a creature has the more powerful and able to shape the Undying Lands to their will. However, creatures who make a bond are unable to act against that bond, so as bonds accrue their freedom diminishes.

Seasonal Courts

Each season is embodied by a King or Queen of the season and their court takes on the aspect of that season.

The Wild Hunt

This court has no single Royalty, but a rotating series of Lords who lead the eternal hunt. The packs of hunting beasts are made up of creatures who have fallen prey to the hunt and been reshaped by the Lord of the Hunt. Eventually creatures who excel in the hunt may be reshaped into their original form.

Chivalric Court

This court is a byzantine structure of ennobled fae where title and relationship drama are paramount.

The Rumpus Riot

The Rumpus Riot is an anarchic collection of fae and children who have found their way into the fae realm. Perpetual children or formed through childlike imagination, the Rumpus Riot does not engage in the political machinations of the Fae Lords.

The Court of Mayhem

Typical led by a goblin, the Court of Mayhem is an anarchic collection of those without bonds who travel the Undying Lands with chaos following in their wake. Of all the courts the Court of Mayhem has the ability to destroy bonds and undo oaths.

Creatures of the Undying Lands

Changelings

Creatures without consistent form are common in the Undying Lands. Taking on the form their Lord's or whims dictate, the changelings survive by being consummate actors and social chameleons.

Fae Lords

These impossibly tall and slight creatures are the royalty of the Undying Lands. They are hedonists in search of new sensation and entertainment as they while away eternity.

Fairies

These tiny creatures are the most common denizens of the fair realm.

Gnomes

Native to the Undying Lands, Gnomes create the entertainments and mystical trinkets that entertain the Fae Lords. They are one of the few creatures that can leave the Undying Lands without being diminished or dying.

Goblins

Native to the Undying Lands, goblins play the role of the perpetual antagonist. Tribes, mobs, and hordes of them gather on the periphery of the Fae Lord's territories. They are cultivated by those same Fae Lords to provide conflict that breaks up the monotony. But Goblins cannot make oaths that bind them to another creature. As such are not bound by the Undying Lands and can leave at any time without consequence.

Hags

Hags are twisted reflections of the glamor of the Undying Realms. Twisted by the pursuit of power, they often have been stripped of their prestige and political relevance. Now they seek to regain their beauty and power through unbalance deals with mortals and other fae.

Castout Elves

Seeking immortality, Elves that have been banished from the Well will purposefully seek out the Undying Lands.

Mortal Humans

Humans will often fall through Loci, purposefully flee through them, or otherwise end up in the Undying Lands. They are the coin of the Fae Lords, who compete to attract and bind them to their courts'. Mortals born of mortal parents will be mortal until their first death and transformation into a fae creature.

Ogres

Ogres are creatures of rage and anger. Shaped from those who have forgotten all their previous memories. Ogre's are one of the creatures that can leave the Undying Lands without being changed.

Other Creatures

Any other type of creature can find their way into the Fae Realm. All are transformed by the realm.
