Arcane Universities
History
The Arcane Univerities, otherwise known as the Old Arcana, is what is used to describe the state of magical development prior to year 301. As the world began to return to life many small groups and covens formed around amassing and protecting the arcane knowlege that survived the calamity. This often lead to skewing or bottlenecking of arcane knowlege and therefore droughts of magical and scientific ideals. As the dust began to settle and the world became more and more interconnected there was great divide between these many individual schools. Some considered other modes of thought to be heretical or anti-intellectual while others where painfully dogmatic and agaisnt innovation. Over time, The Gray Order brokered a deal between these extant institutions. This was a long and arduous process, including meeting and duels and magical composiums and confrences which led to the melding of arcane thought into the institution it is Today.
Disbandment
In the year 481, the greatest magic users in the world gathered at Spirefell. Under the stewardship of the Gray Order's greatest minds and diplomats, they surrendered their titles to found the Collegic League of Arcane Arts, officially melding the learning and tutilage of disciplines across all methods of magical thought. While this would pave the way for all manner of modern arcane applications there are still those who disregard this move and often work beyond the eyes of the Collegic League. These individuals are often called rogue mages and may dabble in all sorts of taboo and unethical magics.
