The Baron Keep

Overlooking the Narrow Sea, inside the walls of the City of Arbiro, the Baron keep is the newly built seat of power of the leaders of the Merchant Republic of Arba.

Purpose / Function

The purpose of the building is to house most of the Republic's governement to ease the governing of its growing territory. Less officialy, but most importantly, the elegant building is also meant to signify and show-off the growing wealth and power of the barons, and of the republic.

Architecture

The Baron keep is a sprawling palace located on a hill west of the City of Arbiro, on a peace of land that juts out dramaticaly out towards the sea. The building is divided into 4 sections: The Main keep, the east and west wings, and the armoury. A staircase and steam-powered elevator shaft connects the armoury and the main keep building to a small port at the base of the cliff, where each of the baron's personal flag ship are anchored.

The Main Keep

The main Keep is meant to be the new residence and seat of power for the barons. It is a tall square building top off with a large dome. Four round towers adorn each of its corners, with roofs complete with spires. The dome is still currently being constructed and a temporary wooden roof was installed underneath, in order to protect the rest of the building from weather damage during construction.

The Armoury

The armoury is located directly behind the Main Keep tower. It is a shorter building with a rectangular base, built entirely of heavy stone blocks. Notably, it contains very few windows. Both the ministry of the army and of the navy reside here, and war plans are meant to be discused here.

East and West Wings

Both the east and west wings are currently finishing construction within the next year. When completed, the east wings will house the Siqan, while the west wing will house the Council of 12. Both wings will also house other govermental workers.

Defenses

The building is surrounded by a high stone wall, reenforced with a total of 8 guard towers, including 4 that are armed with Harpoons to detter any air attacks by @WingedWinged ships. A single gate leads pass this wall, held shut by two wooden and metal doors.

History

The first plans for such a building were first drafted around 10 years ago and the location was chosen soon after. Many preparations, including the complete destruction of a nearby small farmer's village in 362, began in the early 360s, while foundations for the buildings began to be laid in 367. Now, 3 years later, the palace is nearly completed and some members of the government began moving into the building, most notably, a few of the barons.
