Sanatha

Intro:

Sanatha is a small, partially abandoned town located along the western bank of the Sanat river, in the north-east of the Kingdom of Gysia, in a region called the Torennian Marches.

Geography:

The town is sitting in a perfect spot, located at the confluence of two very important trade routes, that being the Pilgrim's road, as well as the Sanat river. While most of the river's banks are muddy and prone to flooding, this specific area is instead slightly more elevated than the rest, and located near a narrowing of the river, allowing easier crossing there, along the otherwise very large river.

History:

It is not known precisely when the town was first founded, but most scholars agree that Sanatha was established during the First Age, probably as a gathering spot for local selcian tribes. By the end of the First Age, the town had grown to maybe a few thousand people, but was mostly abandoned during The Long Winter.
  Sanatha would grow to its biggest size during the first half of the Second Age, but this prosperity wouldn't last long, as during the expansion of the Esnian Empire, it was rased to the ground. It would be partialy rebuilt during the rest of the Second Age, but was probably destroyed again during The Fall, this time by Rekyans attempted to cross the river.
  After The Fall, Sanatha would be included into the short-lived Kingdom of Torennia Kingdom, and would be spared destruction when it was annexed by the Kingdom of Gysia, and again during the first Gysian-Kavasian war. However, luck would run out yet again for the town as it was partialy destroyed during the Second Kavasian War by retreating Kavasian forces as the end of the war. Since its end, 6 years ago, the settlement remains partialy abandoned, with a population of less than 500 people.
