The City of Trondhiem
Long ago, some great amphibious creature borrowed into the side of a mountain by the sea; long since dead now the Hjldres have repurposed this lair as their dark city. Making use of all possible space, filling the cavern with their spindly buildings, built mostly of giant planks of the twilight forest fungi; adding a dim purple glow to the city, and sometimes the suggestion of sunlight between buildings.
Being by the sea the perpetual sea mist leaves the buildings damp to the touch and the air murky and salty, with frequent sea mists drifting in, covering the constant coming and going of their torpedo shaped slave ships.
Demographics
The Native Hjldres are maybe 40/50% of the cities population. As they rarely breed and don't often die thanks to the curse of the woods, this population rarely changes.
The rest of the population is slaves, the Hjldres keep their slaves for all the tasks they do not care for, and all they care for is hunting more slaves. this portion of the population fluctuates frequently as slaves are sold or discarded.
Government
Mercantile Oligarchy, power changes hands freely as fortune favours the bold. to be at the top of Hjldres society is to be the richest and most powerful, but the Hjldres are a jealous people, back stabbing and political undermining is a frequent occurrence, so few stay in power long
Defences
there is little in the way of defence, as the great caves mouth provides only one avenue for attack, and the choppy underdark sea makes that especially perilous. however, ever paranoid, many of the buildings near the entrance are adorned with great siege weapons however no wall protects the cave mouth, it simply opens out onto the docks.
Industry & Trade
Some of the inhabitants cater for internal needs, turning their small apartments into backstreet bars, eateries and shops. but the main bulk of the city is involved in either the slave trade or arena.
The twilight woods gets many visitors lost within it, the Hjldres divide themselves into organisations, each laying claim to a section of the woods to patrol and enslave all within.
the arena is where the strongest and most exotic slaves re sent, in addition to those who have already succumbed to the twilight woods undeath, to fight it out. many fortunes have been made and lost gambling on arena fights.
Infrastructure
Rickety sky scrapers made of Mushroom tree planks make up this metropolis, with shambled stone and iron holding cells for their slaves littering the ground level.
Buildings are built from the floor and roof of the cave, the middle level where the two sets of buildings meet is home to the palatial palaces of the ultra wealthy. meanwhile those at ground level are the muck of society.
buildings are a maze of little rooms, which repurpose as bars, casinos and shops when the inhabitants aren't sleeping.
