Sovereign Rock

"This City is not beautiful. But it will be when I hang up my Crest in that Highest Tower! It is going to be the Marble Hall of Valders!" - Reylos Valar
After the Battle of Elder, the young king Reylos of the Valdar, the folk without land, put his shield on the highest tower of Sovereigncliff, the fortress of Sovereign Rock and declared Elder as the home of Valdar. Hence the name Eldercrest.

Demographics

There are serval streets segregating the inhabitants by wealth. There is however a Ghetto for the Elves close to the imperial gardens. Besides wealth, there are also residential areas for the nobles and residential areas for common folks. Shops and marking places at serval squares.   Since the races are not the main issue, there are no registers for how many from each and every race living in this city.

Government

The Emperor sits in Sovereigncliff, beneath him there is the royal guard and the Inquisition who maintain order in the city. Tax collectors have their office in the Great Temple, the only Church that has statues of all the gods, and all the religious institutions. Lino's priests organize the trade areas and the markets.

Defences

The Garrison of the Royal guard: Castle Mead, the Garrison of the Valkyries: Castle Valkyrie and the garrison of the inquisition: Castle Black, together make a good force defending the Capital, more than 40.000 soldiers. And to that, there are a lot of towers on all the walls. The town is divided into 4 parts and has four inner walls.

Industry & Trade

Sovereign Rock is the center of Eldercrestian trade market. All roads lead to the capital. They benefit from taxes, customs, and taverns.

Infrastructure

Roads of stone, there is no shipyard.

Assets

Public stores and markets controlled sorely by the Lino and Aver priests.
  • John Taverna is a huge pub in the lower districts if the city. You can get an ale for a couple of Eldercrestarian silver coins, and a bottle of wine for a few gold coins. For the poorest, there is mead for a couple of copper coins. It is the hub of actions and on the late nights, the Raptors stations a few of their inquisitors there to maintain order. John Taverna is famous throughout the Empire and has a massive hotel section, and gambling area
  • the Art Square is the only Square in Sovereign Rock where you are permitted to show your art.
  • Square Bronze has a Giant statue of Reyge in bronze. It is the crucifixion square for doomed heretics.
  • the Exotic Wonders of the Moon is a brothel, like every other, own by the Imperial state. Beauty and assets cost more. The profit goes to the Eronium Church according to the constitution law founded in 166 AF
  • The Market of Cuture is the only place, save the taverns and brothels, where you can buy any alcohol of any kind. The market also includes flowers, festivities, fabrics, pillows, and other kinds of stuff related to parties
  • Erkin II's Garden is a public garden open for everyone and the gardeners are part of the Bull Merchant Guild.
  • the Bursting Whale is the pub closest to Teal Depths and is located a short distance from the Exotic Wonders of the Moon. Most people coming here are schemers, gamers, assassins, thieves, smugglers, adventurers, and merchants who are sick and tired of the shared monopoly of the Bull Merchant Guild and the Bonny Merchant Guild. You can't enter without the password given by someone who had entered before. This pub is not located on the map because of its illegal costumers. And has no sign. Beware and watch your pockets!

Guilds and Factions

The only allowed factions in the Capital is guilds attached to Either Lino or Aver priests. But these guilds don't compete with each other, because they are owned by the same company, the Eroniumian Church. But sometimes, to trick the populations, they fight in the markets to make it looks like they are competing with each other. the Bonny Merchant Guild is run by the Lino Priest faction, and the Bull Merchant Guild is run by the Aver Priest faction.

History

The town of Sovereign Rock was already built when the Valders came to Eldar. Since the Eroniumian church gained more power and became a force to be recorded with they slowly took over the towns interest and trading possibilities.

Architecture

The inner square of Sovereign rock was built by a type of stone no one was really knowing its name, so it got the name "Glomdi" that in Valdirish means "unknown White". The other parts of the town surrounding the inner square is, however, built by the more common marble.
