Ferus Valunos
Archon of Caprera (a.k.a. Warden of the North)
Ferus Valunos is the Archon of Caprera, and the patriarch of House Valunos. He is a true mountain of a man, and an intimidating figure despite his warm fatherly smile. He and his family are actually of Vaegir descent, but long ago civilized and become renowned fighters for the empire. Still, he retains many of the physical characteristics of the barbarians. He is a straightforward and honest man, almost the pure opposite of House Senekos, and he despises them in particular. He believes wholeheartedly in facing his enemies from the front in proper combat, and view deception or guile as cowardice and weakness. He might not be the best leader, but he is the leader that the North of the Empire needs right now.
He has never been a flashy man, and is a practical sort. He is also not rich, and so adorns himself simply.
He is a much more skilled warrior than a leader of a city, and it shows, as Caprera has struggled under the constant pressure from raids from the Tsardom of the Vaegirs. While their armies in the field have been able to hold their own, the citizenry has become increasingly worried, and the Archon has failed to inspire them, as he is more used to leading disciplined soldiers rather than weak civilians. In addition, the hit-and-run raids of the Vaegirs go against his in-depth knowledge of fighting front to front in the field. He has struggled to keep the raiders in check, and has begun to reach out for outside assistance in the matter. Mercenaries might not be popular, but they are effective, and that is what he needs right now.
