Trystel

Trystel sits on the opposite side of the range of Volcanoes, known as the Saloess Ridge, from Saloess and is one of the youngest nations in the world. The first official settlement was recorded in PR.3028. The land of Trystel is based mainly around the Trystel River. This river is slightly warmer than it should be, the reason for which was not known until explorers discovered the land of Far Glade to the north. This slight warmth has resulted in land a little more suited to grassland than most of the country, and the settlements of Trystel hug this narrow strip of greenery, herding hardy cattle and mining hard, igneous stone from the nearby hills for use in building.   As one of the nations of the ‘New North’ Trystel attracts it’s fair share of settlers from all walks of life, although it also attracts many who are fleeing from the law of other lands, as Trystel does not yet have any central government or ruler, relying instead on co-operation between community leaders. As such, there are many holdouts of bandits and raiders in the snow-covered hills of Trystel, a problem that the communities of the nation have, as of yet, been unable to fix.

Structure

Each settlement has it's own leader, who treats with the other settlement leaders.

Culture

The people of Trystel have a very Frontier attitude to life, and believe in the hard work of their own hands. They will band together in the face of an outside threat, but can be can be just as quick to stick a knife in each others back if it means survival.

Demography and Population

Due to it's fractured nature, it is hard to get a true gauge of the demographics in Trystel, but it's population is burgeoning due to immigration, as many come to exploit the fertile river valleys and ore rich mountains. Most people stick around the established settlements in the river valleys to stay safe from the bandits and renegades, but some more hardy folk are setting up secluded settlements in the mountains.

Territories

The lands of Trystel stretch from the Shattered Spine Mountains in the West to the Saloess Ridge in the East. The northern border is denoted by the towering ice sheets of the Frozen wastes, and, to the south, there is a hard border with Pelator, which the Dwarven Kingdom has heavily fortified.

Military

Trystel has no military to speak of, outside of the local law enforcers of each settlement.

Foreign Relations

Generally, Trystel has fairly neutral relations with most countries. It's only true issue on a global scale is Pelator, which refuses to accept the existence of Trystel. It is only pressure from Gelding Wood and Fabula Nova that has stopped Pelator from trying to take land in Trystel.
