Structure
The Hand
The Hand is the primary political structure of The Middle Empire, operating a council with 4 elected members and the High King. The functions of each member of the Hand are explained below. The Hand rules from the Imperial Colleges, each working daily from their respective college wing.
High King - As emperor of the Middle Empire, The High King has the final say on all Imperial policy. His office and residence is in the highest tower of The Giver's College, situated inside Alstier Castle.
Grand Magister - The Grand Master is the left hand of the High King, elected by their peers in the Colleges and advises on Collegiate matters. Their offices and residence are in The Lord's College.
The Magi/Maga - The Magi/Maga is the magical authority in Caerwyn, widely considered to be the strongest Practical mage of the generation. These mages are selected by each new High King from a pool of candidates - often individuals that studied alongside the new High King from a young age. The Magi/Maga's office and residence are in The Lady's College.
The High Arcanist - The Arcanist acts as minister of war for the Empire and is a powerful Battlemage. The Arcanist is the highest-ranking member of the Caerwyn Military alongside the High King. Upon retirement, the Arcanist nominates their successor for the position. The Arcanist's office and residence are in The Magician's College.
The Oracle - The Oracle is the most secretive member of the Hand and only whispers are known about the position. It's said The Oracle handles espionage and assassinations, but no one knows for sure. It's said the Oracle resides in The Acolyte's College, but where that College is is a matter of rumor only.
Public Agenda
History
The first Imperial war was won by King Alstier and the nation of Iariquinigar, who unified the once independent countries into The Middle Empire during the War of Realms.
Nearly 200 years ago, the last of the Great Wars was fought, creating a peace with the Wild Lands, Quessir Rûn, and the Northern Reaches.
