The Starborn Root

It did not fall from Cosmic Tapestry. It was planted for us. The root grows still. In the dark. In the silence.

And it waits.

~ Unknown Elf

Summary

The myth tells of Lirael Silverleaf’s mystical origin, born not of Elven parents, but of the Starroot Tree, linking him to celestial and natural forces. His birth heralded a new hope for the wandering elves, eventually guiding them to their destined homeland and crowning him the first Elf King. His legacy is one of guidance, cosmic purpose, and harmony between the natural and arcane.

Historical Basis

Some suggest the Starroot Tree may be a symbolic retelling of an actual leyline convergence in the deep forest of old Ervalen. Historical records are sparse, but there are stone carvings and ruins that seem to depict a glowing tree with a humanoid form within. The birth itself is almost certainly mythologized, but Lirael’s leadership and migration to The Night Lands are confirmed by oral tradition.

Spread

The myth is universal among the Elves, especially in the Night Lands and across regions where Lirael's descendants still rule or inspire. It is part of every Elf's early teachings, embedded in their naming ceremonies.

Variations & Mutation

Very little variation because of the Elves long memory.

Cultural Reception

This myth is sacred history in Elven soicety. It is celebrated yearly at a festival of song, stargazing, and collective storytelling.
