The Root that Sang

It is said that when the stars first whispered to the world, a radiant tree bloomed in a forgotten glade, its roots sunk into both this world and the next. The tree was called Vireth Lûnethil—the Root of Echoing Light. And one night, under a sky lit with no moon, but crowned by a sudden nova, the tree bore fruit in the shape of a child.

From this fruit emerged a boy, silver-haired and star-eyed. He did not cry but sang a single, ancient note, said to harmonize with the heartbeat of the world. The trees bent toward him, recognizing him. The wind bore his name: Lirael.

Raised by the twilight druids who first heard his song, Lirael was said to possess an innate bond with all magick touched by starlight. When the elves wandered without home or king, he led them to the Night Lands—where the stars never set, and the land sang back.
