Welcome to K'lais
Welcome to K’lais
In service, we prosper.
Far from Earth and even farther from human expectations, K’lais is a living example of what order, discipline, and collective responsibility can achieve. To human visitors, K’laisians are often called “elves” or “space elves,” a crude comparison born of ancient Earth folklore. The resemblance is superficial but striking: tall, graceful beings of exceptional strength and precision, with unblemished skin, controlled movements, and a presence that suggests careful design rather than chance evolution.
The K'laisians
Native born K’laisians possess exceptional night vision, making dim environments and complete darkness of little consequence. Beings of mixed heritage show varying degrees of this ability, depending on lineage. Physical imperfections are rare. Scarring is uncommon even after battle, and personal grooming is ingrained from an early age.
Their demeanor often reads as composed, even cold, to outsiders. In truth, it is restraint. K’lais was once a world dominated by interclan warfare. That era ended when unity proved more effective than endless bloodshed. One dissenting sect rejected this path and departed to colonize Va'nu, creating the Va'nu'ians now regarded as distant cousins. Those who remained restructured their society rather than abandon their nature.
Aggression did not disappear. It was refined.
Duels and Order
Conflict on K’lais is resolved through Challenges and Duels , formal, legal, and culturally respected. Cold blooded murder without cause is punishable by death, not out of vengeance, but because such acts are viewed as an incurable mental illness. Why kill without purpose when one may legally Challenge an opponent and kill legally?
Weapons designed for dueling are a common sight. They do not require registration and cause no alarm when openly carried. Projectile weapons such as pistols, rifles, cannons, and grenades are heavily regulated. Every sidearm is registered through the Military Subnet Datasource, built exclusively by military armories, and capable of remote deactivation. Yearly psychological evaluations are mandatory to retain ownership.
Governance and Surveillance
K’lais is not ruled by elections. Positions are earned. Titles follow the structure of Master of a discipline, indicating expertise rather than authority alone. Masters of the Dead, Security, Communications, and other sectors serve until they fail to meet rigorous psychological and ethical standards.
The military stands above all other institutions, followed by police service, then civilians. Security clearances determine access to information, infrastructure, and opportunity. Clearance is earned and maintained through ongoing evaluations.
Surveillance is constant and accepted. Nearly everything is recorded, with the exception of private homes. Even there, many choose to install cameras in all areas except bedrooms and bathrooms. Safety is valued over secrecy, and visitors who object are advised not to come.
Death, Health, and the Mind
K’laisians do not worship gods, nor do they romanticize death. When a being dies, there is a Celebration of Life, not a funeral. Bright colors replace mourning black. A Master of the Dead oversees the body, conducts examinations, and directs the celebration.
Medical care is universal. Tourist or citizen, all receive treatment. To ignore illness, whether physical, psychological, or neurological, is considered shameful.
Prejudices such as racism, xenophobia, or claims of superiority are classified as illnesses. Untreated, they result in dishonorable discharge from military or police service and permanent disqualification from positions of power.
The World Itself
K’lais is vast and ecologically protected. Cities are districts within sectors, sectors are within territories. There are ten territories, each divided into ten sectors, with up to one hundred districts per sector.
Architecture blends deliberately into nature. Rivers and lakes remain unpolluted. Nature preserves dominate the landscape. Pets are not permitted unless a creature chooses a being of its own will. Poaching is a severe crime, aggressively prevented by hired mercenary forces during peak seasons.
The sun rises on the left side of the world and travels to the right. As a result, the left side of the body holds symbolic importance. Greetings are made by gripping the left shoulder. Clan signet rings are worn on the first finger of the left hand and passed to the eldest child, regardless of gender. Inheritance is rare on K’lais. Honor is earned, not given.
Military Oversight and Protection
Every energy weapon fired generates data. Owner, time, and location are automatically logged. Training is conducted only at military ranges using altered energy settings that mark shots as practice.
The military symbol depicts two kavaera cats, powerful native predators with sleek bodies, forward facing eyes, and crested ears, standing upright atop an image of K’lais and holding a stylized bloom resembling the ancient Earth fleur de lis.
Special classifications exist beneath military oversight. The Watch List is reserved for individuals or, rarely, entire bloodlines who have provided extraordinary service. Those listed receive lifelong protection, whether they know it or not. Threats are quietly removed. Dangerous paths are gently closed.

Relations Beyond K’lais
The truce with Va’nu remains fragile, though shared medical research has improved interspecies outcomes. Following the events known as Depth of Injustice, changes were made due to what occurs.
Final Note to Visitors
K’lais thrives on service, structure, and accountability. Freedom exists, but it is earned. Privacy exists, but it is often optional. Conflict exists, but it is regulated.
If you respect the system, K’lais will protect you.
If you do not, it will remember you.
Welcome to K’lais.
