SoS: 2-Underhill

General Summary

Upon the party's return from Lash's cave, Wayt conceded having no power to police Sentynel and implored the party to find out what Callay is up to in the fort. The party exchanged dragon teeth for supplies in town while Hope ventured up to fort to charm and interrogate the guards. Spotting the most desperate, Hope bargained physical relations for information and supplies. After a successful midnight transaction, Hope rested up and relayed information to the crew. Wayt beckoned the crew back to the burrow to recover the remainder of the water along with Callay's fort guards. The stooges formally introduced themselves to the party retrieved the stolen water from the cave.   After returning from the cave, Hope spoke to her previous lay, Cary, and indulged him again in exchange for the ability to purchase some of the stored weapons in the fort. Hope probed Cary further revealing that Callay had the previous farmers whom dug under the fort before disappearing. Hope gestured Cary to stay at the farm while the crew and Wayt proceed to confront Callay. Inside the fort just before the other guards get back from their drinking, the crew discovers a metal hatch in the lower barracks.   Below the fort, a dug hole led to a dry and putrid cavern where the former farmers lay murdered and sewn together into a unicorn. Using a horn fashioned from the dragon teeth sold at the general store, Callay skewered the abominations head calling out to his patron to return to him. The zebra unicorn, whose face appeared torn into horrid maw of gore and broken teeth, staggered to life in horror. Mortified by what has been done to him, Chenval the Unicorn the fallen patron of Callay, castigated him claiming that revival in this state is nigh irreversible. An hour long exchanges revealed Chenval's original nature: protector of the surrounding area poached and mutilated by human raiders for his horn. Chenval also confirmed the Scorch as an "ancient horror cloistered beyond the sands." Callay, in retaliation, acknowledged Wayt's scarred face and most importantly his originally elven ears cut into a human shape.   Stalemated, the crew proclaimed their intent to revive Sentynel and reinstated Wayt as constable. Roland pilfered Callay's Luckstone while the others armed themselves decently. After a brief discussion at the drinking cliff side behind the fort, the crew designated themselves "The Shields of Sentynel" who would protect Sentynel from the oncoming Scorch. Aiysen, at the rise of dawn, attempted to redeem Callay of his inner demons. It would take many more attempts to achieve this. The Shields also acquired a few hounds from the starved houndmaster whom resulted to eating his weaker hounds for survival. Armed, armored, hounded, and with intent, the Shields headed up the Withering Road toward Otway...
