The Stormwash Steps

The Stormwash Steps are one of the few ways to surmount the Storval Rise that rings the The Cinderlands. The Steps are a complicated series of switchbacks that snake their way up the Jeggare River as it cascades down rolling bluffs at one of the low points in The Rise. They are not in and of themselves treterous, but unprepared or inexperienced travelers will soon learn the reason for their infamy. At the top of The Steps, the Jeggare River forms a small basin before plumetting over the side of the cliffs there. Any amount of rain that falls on The Cinderlands causes this basin to overflow along it's rim and turn the otherwise calm switchbacks into a slippery and dangerous rise. During heavier rains, the overflow can quickly become a torrent of water overtaking the path. Only a few natural protections exist where travelers can shelter and the Steps are to sutbborn to allow for the construction of any mortal made shelter.
