Story of Creation
In the begining there were Dunnean, Thamos, Gaillen and Sonath
Sonath saw his Bride Gaillen was filled with sorrow and an unending emptiness. He came to Dunean and queried him why Gaillen was possessed by such sorrow. Dunnean turned to Sonath and said to him, “Create life with her”, and so Sonath went to his wife, and from them were birthed The Sea, the Earth, the Air, and Fire. Gaillen was overjoyed with her children and created for them The Planes so that they would have a place to reside and prosper.
Sonath beheld the creation of his wife and was dismayed by their growth. He reveled in the joy of his bride, but knew that Life would soon grow beyond even her control. With a heavy heart, he spoke to her and said “There is too much growth in our creation. I fear they will soon grow beyond our own machinations. There must be balance.” Gaillen knew what had to be done but couldn’t bring herself to limit her own creation. Sonath took the burden upon himself and ushered death into the world. from then on plants withered when they should, animals killed each other and died of old age, and the very planes entered a cycle of life and death. But from then on, Sonath’s beloved bride could not bear to dwell in the same place as he for Life and Death cannot dwell together.
Thamos saw the creatures of creation and thought of it well, but saw that they were all mindless. Thamos wondered what would happen if they could think and reason like Thamos did. He pulled up from among them select members and gave to them conscious thought and will of mind. Thus The Planes were populated with thinking, reasoning creatures. Amoung them where the Veteri, the first race of thinking creatures to populate The Material Plane. However, they thought the same. Thamos’ reasoning was imparted to them and no original or distinctive thoughts were among them. Now Thamos was displeased by this as he could not have discourse with any of these creatures. He came to Dunnean and asked what he could do to change this. Dunnean turned to him and said, “Let there be a division among them.” And so Dunnean and Thamos together created Good and Evil in the world. Now these were at the time merely forces of nature which governed The Planes. However, after a time, The denizens of The Planes grew so disparate in their beliefs and so devote to them, that these forces began to take on a life of their own. The evil of the world became a hungry entity which sought to devour the good of the world and Dunnean named it Kulkemos. The good of the world became a being which warded the weak and the honorable alike and Dunnean named it Zutlos.
Now Dunnean knew that there must be distinction and division between good and evil to keep the two in balance. So he created an arbiter; he pulled from the two a being knowledgeable of all their ways that he may hold creation in balance. so Justice was born.
When Thamos created consciousness among the creatures of creation, he also gave them the ability to learn. Now as the Veteri were still young, they still knew only to hunt to provide. one among them called Rovou was a skilled and clever hunter. he watched the power of beasts like the bear and the guile of predators like the tiger and learned from them all. after some time, Rovou had become the greatest hunter to dwell in the [number of planes]. But for all of his ferocity and guile, Rovous was a peaceful man and never brought suffering to his kills. Gaillen saw this, and while she was dismayed by the loss of life, she was pleased with Rovou’s reverence for her creatures. One day she came to Rovou in the shape of a beautiful and large horse with a horn of pearl protruding from its snout and mighty wings furled against its back. Gaillen spoke to Rovou from the majestic beast and said to him, “You have pleased me with your respect for my children. While I am loath to the loss of life, I recognize that you provide balance to my creation with your pursuit. For this, I would offer you life eternal that you may learn and hunt all the creatures of the [number of planes]. should you accept my offer, hunt this new specimen that I have brought to you.” With that, Gaillen left the beast that Rovou could pursue it. But Sonath heard Gaillen’s proposal and was dismayed. he feared that an undying Veteri could pass this ability on to his offspring and undo all of Sonath’s work. So when Rovou had slain the mighty beast Gaillen had sent him, Sonath spoke to Rovou through the dead beast and said to him, “Rovou the huntsman, I have heard what my beloved has offered you. I too am pleased that you hunt and kill. This is the order I have made in this world and you have perfected it. Death is necessary for all things in this world, even you must eventually leave this world Rovou. However, to make good on the promise of my loved one, I offer you a place amongst us that you may hunt all of the beasts and creatures that dwell in these planes and beyond and inspire all other hunters who will come after you. what say you?” Rovou could not turn down this offer and was immediately whisked away into the ether and became one amongst the divine beings. From then after, he oversaw all of the hunters which followed, just as Sonath had promised.
Another of the Veteri, who had no true name, embraced the lies of the Evil one and bent them to his own gain. He became proficient at playing on the wills of others and bending the rationalities which Thamos had imparted upon them. Now one day, this silver tongued liar spoke of himself with pride, saying to himself that if he could out wit all the creatures of creation, then surely he could out wit Thamos himself. Now Thamos heard his statement and was intrigued, for Thamos even knew not the name of this Veteri. Thamos came to the trickster that night in a dream and questioned him. The liar was able to fool the all knowing even in dream and this frustrated Thamos. He came to the soothsayer later that same night and attempted to trick his mind into revealing itself during his slumber. He proposed conundrums and impossibilities, some the likes of which would cause most to lose their sanity. But the scoundrel’s mind was pliable and quick as it sidestepped most impossibilities or countered with another question. Soon Thamos was so mad that he was outplayed by a mortal that he woke him and said, “I will offer you anything in creation that you desire if you will tell me your name.” The trickster gleefully spoke to Thamos, “I know that a mortal is bound by his word and a God by his word, but tell me, are Gods bound by the words of mortals? Give me your gift first and I will give you mine.” Thamos agreed and asked what the con desired. He replied, “Make me a God that I my play my wits against the divine and all those beings of the [number of planes] and beyond.” at that, Thamos whisked the mortal away into the endless ether and endowed his spirit with the power of all of Thamos’ kin. Then Thamos turned to the reborn trickster and said, “Now you have your request, now tell me your name.” the trickster said to Thamos, “I asked you were not God’s above the bounds of mortal’s words. when I were mortal I gave you my word to reveal my name. But by your own response I am now above that bond and must divulge nothing. In truth you will never hear my name Thamos the unknowing.” That once, was a being able to outwit Thamos and so The Silver Tongued God came to be.
After a time, The Silver Tongued god sought to play wits against Dunnean. The silver one knew that Dunean saw the possibilities of things but sought to outdo the foresight that he possessed. Now The Silver Tongued came to the Thamos and said to him, “Does not Dunnean know as much as you do? does not his foresight rival your own powers of prediction? Let us come up with something that Dunnean could not have forseen of The Planes. We shall make a force of will and energy which will reshape the nature of The Planes forever in such a way that will escape even Dunnean’s foresight.” And so the two conspired together in secret and forged a new element of the [number of planes]. This became what is now known as magic and it was a powerful force; one so strong that it threatened to tear apart the boundaries of The Planes themselves. Now all of The Planes possessed diverse races as they had grown separate and varied. all except The Material Plane, upon which the Veteri thrived and prospered in unity. this made them strong in the use of this new force and they learned to wield it with great reach. One Veteri in particular became a master of this new force and learned to use it to perform feats that were originally only capable by the most devote worshipers of the Gods. She used her power to prolong her life indefinitely and even used them after a time to temporarily transcend mortality and walk among the gods in the ether. At this, Thamos feared that this force he had created would threaten the existence of The Planes and beyond; it could even affect their divine place. At this, Sonath intervened and went to Vexlyn. He spoke to her and showed her the potential for this force to destroy all creation and more. Her asked her to forgo her seeming immortality and to take the secrets of her power to her grave. Vexlyn thought about this and eventually came to a different conclusion. She channeled the full of her spirit and power into her studies of magic and the divine and forced her spirit to the ether. She Empowered her escence from her mortal shell and ascended to the place of the divine as the steward of the previously unbridled force of magic. After this, Vexlyn came to Gaillen and told her to split the Veteri into many races to prevent another from attaining power such as Vexlyn had in mortal life. after this, the Veteri were no more, and instead they diverged and varied into the many mortal races which now inhabit The Material Plane.
Now creatures of The Planes continued to prosper with Thamos’ wisdom and the power of magic. great cultures were born, awesome cities raised, and prosperity reigned. The thinking creatures of creation began to grow in populace despite the bounds of natural death. Until then, the rational creatures of The Planes had not thought to slay each other as Thamos’ gift of wisdom instead drove them to bargain and negotiate. Sonath saw that undoing this would be how he would again curb their unchecked growth. So Sonath came to Kulkemos and said to him, “Create strife amongst the leaders of these nations. Fill The Planes with conflict. I release you to fill the minds of the living with murder.” and so Kulkemos went to the kings of all The Planes and whispered lies and deceit in their ears. he forged elaborate misconceptions and hatreds amongst the races. soon, vast armies were gathered, and were marched to meet each other. across the whole of the [number of planes] The First War plunged creation into chaos and bloodshed. Untold millions of souls were released from their mortal shells. So many were they that had been slaughtered in the fields of battle during that first war that Sonath gathered all of their essences into one and gave it purpose. Sonath called this new being Kavos and he was the epitome of war. He would lead many great nations to war with each other and provide further check on the growth of Life throughout the [number of planes].
