The Codex
Codex Forward and Mission Statement
This chapter is not meant to be something that everyone will enjoy. We are looking for people who want more out of the Fallout 76 Brotherhood of Steel experience. We are looking for roleplayers, creatives, and people who want to learn how to roleplay.
We have some fairly strict requirements that will affect how you play the game. These requirements are not put in place to restrict your roleplaying experience, but rather to enhance the experience of the group as a whole and avoid the pitfalls that other thematic groups have fallen into in Fallout 76 since the beginning of the game.
It is our sincere hope that you can find a home here and discover an entire new way to enjoy this amazing franchise. If you do run into something that rubs you the wrong way please speak your mind. The codex tells us "Through discourse, we gain the strength of our Brothers' minds." so please speak up, we are trying to build something amazing here.
In order to facilitate our roleplay we use a variety of rules and mechanisms with the intent of trying to portray the Brotherhood of Steel in a lore friendly and cohesive manner for not only our own group, but the Fallout 76 community at large.
Our Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide a canonically correct Brotherhood of Steel roleplaying experience for our membership and the greater fallout 76 PC community.
We do this by playing characters that have fictional lives that are believable within the context of both the game world and the Brotherhood of Steel organization. We roleplay in both organized and casual stories to provide an example of a different way to enjoy the game for others.
The group also strives to preserve the memory of our interactions with the game world and the community by recording important information in the scrolls.
To walk among us is to play an NPC trying to bring more life into Appalachia. We are not the main characters.
Our group exists to fulfill these goals. We are not a social group, there are many of those elsewhere. We are trying to elevate the experience of gaming in Fallout 76 for ourselves and others.
THE RULES FOR EVERYONE ON OUR VOIP SERVERS
These must be adhered to if you join our VOIP servers (Guilded/Discord/Teamspeak/In Game Audio) at all times.
Respect yourself and others
Be considerate of your fellow members. If you have disagreements, discuss them, don't create drama. Try to understand where your brothers and sisters are coming from and remember that we are a diverse online gaming community.
If you cannot work out issues bring them to the attention of an admin, but try to work it out first. This also denotes that you should employ tact when discussing hot button topics (like politics and religion) and try to keep topics of conversation on the things that unite us rather than those that would divide us.
Please do not stream our guilded or in-game activities without permission and the subsequent warning of other participants.
Please do not use an open mic unless you are 100% confident that background noise will not spill through and unintended communication will not happen.
We have a zero tolerance policy towards bigotry of any type (sexism, racism, homophobia, etc...)
THE RULES FOR CHAPTER MEMBERS
These must be adhered to if you are a chapter member at all times, even when you are not actively playing with our group. By accepting these rules you will also agree to be an ambassador of our chapter across all characters on your account, at all times.
No Mutants Allowed
These are serious medical problems in the eyes of the chapter, not a benefit. Serums are enclave tech derived from abhorrent human experimentation. ALL character(s) on the account that you use for play with our group cannot be intentionally mutated, and must seek medical treatment if they become mutated. This affects all characters due to the fact that your account name (display name) is essentially the only name on the account that discerns between all of your characters in the game world.
This means you cannot have mutations on your character(s), suppressing your mutations will not fulfill this requirement.
No Cannibalism
This includes both the perk card and cannibal RP. We are trying to save the future of humanity, not eat it.
No Nukes
Elder Maxson said no! We will honor that with one (out of character) exception. The only exception is for those who need to complete the main quest. Aside from that one instance we will not launch nukes ourselves. Our membership is encouraged to participate in nukes launched by other survivors however, to help contain the nuclear hell that is unleashed. Do not launch nukes while you are with our chapter outside of this one exception.
Uphold Uniform Regulations
We require our membership to adhere to a visual aesthetic in order to portray the Brotherhood of Steel effectively. These requirements are covered in the Uniform Regulation channel. Please read and heed, these are very important and are expected to be upheld at all times unless your character is considered off-duty (This means off duty events), trying to fulfill a score challenge or quest requirement, or you are on your own private server.
These may seem harsh, but you are an ambassador for the BoS while playing the game with us. The image you take on for yourself is the image of the Brotherhood to outside eyes, and it is our expectation that when you are interacting with others that they can tell you are the Brotherhood of Steel.
Always ask yourself when making decisions about your gear if it would represent the Brotherhood of Steel to outside eyes.
//Uniform Regulations are discussed in further detail here//
Respect yourself and others
Group participation is MANDATORY
To participate in this group it is mandatory that the majority of your gaming time be spent on Fallout 76 and that the majority of your time in Fallout 76 be spent supporting h4F's efforts. This group does not function without the involvement of the players supporting it. If you find that you are spending more time playing with other groups or games it is requirement that you leave the server.
It is expected that your playtime in Fallout 76 is spent with the group, logged into voice chat with the group. It sends the wrong message to everyone if you are logged into the game but not playing with the group or communicating with the group.
This group involves many out-of-game activities supporting the roleplay. It is a requirement that each and every person joining find time to pitch in on these creative activities (as you can) to better the roleplay for yourself and others.
If you make a habit of missing planned sessions without letting us know that you will not be able to make it you will be removed from the server unless you communicate with leadership. It is required to message an officer ahead of time if you cannot make a sunday session (unless you have previously stated you cannot normally attend them)
Extended absences from the roleplay or the group without communication to the officers will result in your removal from the group.
Do not join if you are looking for a place to park an alt. This group must be considered your main activity in gaming if you join us. We have a limited number of player spots on a server and are looking for folks that want to participate in building a vibrant, alive community. Part of being active and involved is interacting with the group when you have free time, not just when things are scheduled.
Please, be active and involved!
If you do feel like leaving the project for any reason please refrain from announcing your departure (See the respect yourself and others rule) in public channels and communicate your intentions with an officer instead. Please leave the server if you find that Fallout 76 is no longer your primary interest, or that this group is no longer your primary focus in the game.No Glitching/Hacking/Duping/Exploiting
No exceptions, just don't do it. This behavior puts you and the group at risk and is ethically questionable. We want our membership to be better than this. This includes XP and camp exploits or build glitches. (For example: Using a rug to place an item in a location in a camp that it cannot be placed otherwise, or ultracite/scorched exploits for XP purposes in glassed caverns)
Do not feed trolls!
This one is very important. If someone is griefing you or trolling the group in game, just block them, report for harassment, and move on with your life. Do not engage these people at all, just block them. Leave a server if you must, but don't give them power over you.
What we are trying to do in this group requires far more effort than what they are trying to do and engaging them just drags us down to their level and encourages more harassment.
No Metagaming or Godmodding.
If you are not sure if your character knows something in the RP, you should assume they do not until such a time that it can be made clear that they do. This can be done either through discovery in the RP or through group discussion about it in an OOC manner. It's better to ask in an OOC manner than to drive the RP down a road where metagaming is changing what we know.
If you need a definition of these things:
Those are the chapter rules, we fully expect people to abide by them, even when you are not actively in a group of players from the chapter. The only exceptions are what you do on your own private server, playing on an unaffiliated account, score challenges, and the Nuke launch required for the main quest (you can also help others do this). This is very important, it will affect how you play the game.
Accepting membership past this point means that you will adhere to these rules for the entire time you are with the chapter for all characters on the account that you play with us. We have zero qualms about you breaking these rules on a totally separate account that has zero affiliation with the chapter. You are an ambassador of the chapter and we require that you act accordingly while you are with us.
If you have any questions or comments please contact us, we do not take these rules lightly and if you find that they are not cohesive to your game play this may not be the best chapter for you.
Session schedule
Every Sunday at 18:00 UTC we host our main story line session for the week. This will take 2 hours depending on how things go during the session. If you can show up early it is highly advised so we can get gear and sound checks out of the way. These sessions are also filmed by multiple camera positions and posted on YouTube (very important) so your RP will be made public (important)
It is also required that you update your status (as going or declined) at least a day ahead of time in regards to your attendance of the sunday schedule on our calendar. If you are not sure if you an make it please select declined but show up if you can (at any time during the session)
Timezone conversion tool: //World Time Converter//
If you cannot make the main session due to scheduling conflicts don't worry, there are other options for RP called Patrols (see //Patrol System// ) can happen at any time during the week as your schedule sees fit. These exist to bridge scheduling gaps and keep people roleplaying throughout the week.
Naming Convention
We have a display name convention that is 100% optional but heavily encouraged to show support of the group. We use the following convention:
- For Hopefuls: Hopeful.(character name here)
- For Initiates: Initiate.(character name here)
- For Scribes: Scribe.(character name here)
- For Knights: Knight.(character name here)
- Please note that the space is a period (.) and not an underscore
We highly advise that you change your display name for security purposes even if you don’t choose to use our convention. Please do not choose a rank higher than your actual rank in game for your name, this causes mass confusion on reports.
To change your display name proceed to //Bethesda.net// and right click on your own name once signed in. Click on Account Management > Edit Account > Fill in new Display Name > Submit.
Discipline
We ask that you read and abide all of these rules and conventions as laid out in the Codex. If you have questions, it is far better to ask for permission than for forgiveness in this group. We are very serious about our rules and the group may not be a good fit for you if you find that these are rubbing you the wrong way.
If we find that you are unable to abide by the rules, or are being disruptive either socially or in the RP itself you will be dismissed from the chapter.
Dismissal from the chapter will result in your character being discharged from service and stricken from the scrolls in our RP.
We also use a demerit system for lesser offenses. The //Demerit system article is hosted here//
Please, if you are worried about something, ask leadership. We are heavy handed about the rules but also understanding and fair. You will not get kicked or disciplined for mistakes, but we will not let the chapter be taken advantage of either.
