Lore Mechanisms

//Back to the Codex//   In order to facilitate better roleplay we have come up with a number of lore mechanisms and gameplay systems to cover things that tend to come up during sessions on a regular basis.

Anderson Kids

This is an online game where people will act in a variety of ways when they see a group of roleplayers running around trying to RP. Some of these are extremely odd, detrimental, or outright hostile.   In our own lore we invented a character and a situation to explain these people. That character is Mr. Anderson. In the vault Mr. Anderson was a teacher who managed to corrupt a swath of children from the vault, who subsequently acted in a variety of really weird ways.   Sometimes they talk gibberish like they are not even part of the world, but rather like they are being controlled by outside forces (ooc chatter and meta-speak). Sometimes they like to fire blanks from guns or other extravagant displays of pyrotechnics at random people (they shoot you, or throw grenades in a desperate bid for attention). And sometimes they do really crazy stuff like jump into a fissure site to get away from your RP.   This is one of our mechanisms to cope with situations we are very likely to come across during play and explain them in our own story.

Paladin AFriKa

Our chapter is led by an NPC named Paladin Afrika. He is our leader, and also likes to micromanage us when we are out on patrol. Sometimes he has assigned people tasks that take them away from the main group at random times to give new orders or confirm old information.   He's also our Mcguffin to go AFK. All you have to do during any session that you need to take an AFK break is let us know in some in character fashion that Paladin Afrika wants gave you an assignment (make something up, Paladin Afrika asked me to get a sample of the local tree bark) and then go AFK. Do not announce this over the radio, and try to be less intrusive, not moreso when going AFK or returning.

Code Harmonica

This one is special. If something is happening that is so severe that you think we need to cut the action completely to resolve it (like a griefer is causing major problems for the group, or someone disconnected start talking about how you think you might have lost your harmonica, or how much you love Initiate Steel campfire harmonica music. Leadership will get the message and either call HARMONICA HARMONICA HARMONICA (meaning everyone ceases everything they are doing at that moment, including moving their character, and awaits further orders) or they will respond in character, politely declining.   If you hear HARMONICA HARMONICA HARMONICA over any of the voice chats we use, stop what you are doing completely, just stop moving and await further information.

Brotherhood Bear

Brotherhood Bear is our training mascot that we use to help teach people some of the pitfalls and lessons we have learned during our RP sessions. His videos can be found here and should be watched by everyone:   //Brotherhood Bear//   //Back to the Codex//
