Q'eillans

Q'eillic: Dwara ju Q'eillen /twara ju qʼaiːʎ̥ɛn/
Njóþic: T'warak ju Q'eillen /tʼwarakh ju qʼailːɛn/ (formal), Q'eillpin /qʼailːphɪːn/ (informal)
Númric: Toxílenólór /thɔksilɛːnoulour/
Hmargic: Gihlenarp /kɪːl̥ɛnaɺph/
The q'eillans1 are the predominantly dwarven inhabitants of Tos Q'eillen in easternmost Rúþría, a region in the northern Southlands. Most are descendants of both njóþan colonists from Ninnirt Zö in southeastern Jælondis and T'üllmans who settled there after the colony of New T'üllma was destroyed by native trolls, along with more recent Ti'eians from Ytvía in southern Jælondis.

Culture

Apparel

Q'eillan clothing is overall similar to that worn by the Njóþans but with greater númran influence. Due to their resistance to cold temperatures and partially underground living, there's little seasonal difference for clothes in terms of warmth and coverage.

Cuisine

As in Ninnirt Zö, traditional q'eillan cuisine is heavily influenced by the four major fasting periods, such as salted meat and fish being commonplace during Yellow Fast when herbs and spices are avoided, and seafood during Blue Fast. The day before Red Fast is one of the largest celebrations of the year in Tos Q'eillen and attracts tourists from all over the Southlands and beyond, during which all sorts of food and drink are served.
Outside of these events, the diet is mostly based on barley, lupine beans, sausages, llama meat- and cheese (including fondue) bluehead squab, grilled fish, butter tea, ale and and barley beer, while sauerkraut is less popular than among the njóþans. The use of squab is a recent addition to q'eillan diet introduced by ti'eians, first at restaurants and now enjoyed at home as well.
It's not uncommon for irreligious q'eillans to travel abroad during the fasts to circumvent the dietary restrictions and availability of certain ingredients, as well as avoid pressure from more observant neighbours.

Religion

Teraftism brought by the settlers remains the country's largest religion, with a significant minority of q'eillans follow t'wanism or some syncretic version of the two. Although those who are less religious or atheist form a larger part of the q'eillan population than in Ninnirt Zö, the ones who are religious tend to adhere more strictly to various aspects of teraftism than most njóþans, including adding further dietary restrictions for the main periods of fasting throughout the year.
