Midgara
Midgara, also locally called Midra by some cultures within it, is the first moon of the largest terestrial planet in the Istalnyr system. its name comes from the fact that it is caught between two planets: Jotun, its host planet, and Vanyr, Jotun's second and outer moon.
Midran Flora, Fauna, and Spirits.
Midgara is notable for two major things on its surface, its plants and its animals. being that it is caught between the gaze of two gods, and the host for a third, this planet has grown to become a mixing pot of powers and creatures. Flora its plant life is very tame in comparison to its twin brother planet Vanyr, but it makes up for it by housing deeply saturated essence found in nearly every fiber. the cause of this is not fully understood but is concidered to be a side effect of its host fragment being linked to spirits which leave behind a trace amount of essence when they die. this essence overtime has leaked into the soil, crystalized into stones, and as a result imbued the plantlife with traces of spirit essence. this effect is seen on other planets, but was thought to be rare, as it only typically occured at sacred places where spiritual energy was strong, but on Midra, those locations appear to be are nearly everywhere. Fauna similarly to the plant life, Midgara has an intersting history of wildlife. due to the high concentration of essence caused from the formation of spirits, many animals end up consuming this essence and as a result, mutate and adapt to metabolize it. as a result the planet tends to create many oddities within its creatures. these higher rates of mutation cause creatures to adapt quickly to harsher environments, and gain strange magical features and abilities. its effects are not only limited to its local wildlife however as it has been observed to affect migrated or visiting species, causeing them to similarly mutate, or causeing their features to become more animalistic over generations. Spirits as noted above, Midgara is home to the fragment known as Varwyn, which is linked to spirits and the domain of beasts and vessels. this fragment seems to be closer to the surface than some of the other worlds, as its presence causes an unusual phenomena. the formation of spirits are typically rare and only happen in sacred places where magic is stronger. these "conduits" are typically uncommon and far spread on planets, leading to spirits being far and few in most realms. this makes Midgara a notable exception as it appears to have one of the highest concentrations of conduites recorded, at least within the istalnyr system. the only other worlds that come close would be Alfyr, and the moons of Nidvella. it is theorized that this is because it is the "middle world" to Jotun and Vanyr. Most conduits are fromed from the flow of energy that pours out of Istlanyr, and creatues currents and streams through the spiritual realm as that energy recycles back into itself. when some of these streams cross paths, they create thin spots where some of it can leak back into the material world again, creating spirits. these streams always pass around and through planets on their journey back, and it is beleived that because of Midgara's unusual position it not only has the streams from its own planet, but also is being bombarded by streams from both Vanyr and Jotun as well. this would explain the higher concentration of conduits and the higher amount of spirits as a result.Primary and Secondary Arcana
Midgara, similar to some of the other planets in the istalnyr system, has more than one Arcane source within it. in Midgaras case, it has two of equal significance which are both closely intertwined and both connected to the Goddess Varwyn. Soul Bonding the first magic system of note is one known as Soul Bonding. this system has been observed on a few other worlds, primarily ones that have higher concentrations of spirits or untethered souls in them, or in Sacred places/conduits. this system is concidered to be the original magic of the goddess Varwyn, although her usage of Runeweaving is equally of note. Rune Weaving the second magic system of note is one called Rune Weaving, which is linked to the Heart Galdur. this power relies on the phenomena known as Runes which menefest in the realms at conduits where the spirit pattern of the elements can be glimpsed by broken souls. that roughly translates to, since Midra has such a high concentration of conduits creating thin spots the process of discovering Runes becomes much more common than it would be otherwise. technically Rune Weaving would be the secondary magic system of Midra, as it is not explicitly the source power of Varwyn's fragment. but due to the planets unique situation with conduits and its close connection to the heart galdur, which is linked to the Goddess's domain, its prevalence on the planet is on par with Soul Bonding.some intersting facts about the planet as a whole:
- curiously while the tides on Midra are much stronger than some planets, it is not to the degree expected of a planet pulled by so many exterior forces. wether this is due to it bering a star fragment within it, or some other means is not fully understood.
- Midgara is 0.9% Terrestrial standard size (TS), and has a gravity strength of 0.85% TS.
- its atmostphere is about 75% nitrogen, 24% oxygen, and 0.9% other gases.
- its axis is set to 23* to istalnyr and experiences 24 hour day night cycles.
