Weres

Weres are a genus of animalistic shapeshifters that can transform from human to specific animals. Each were-creature holds a curse in their blood that can be traced back to a sole individual, a group that was cursed by a witch, or in the case of Purgatory weres, a lineage.   Though there are different groups of weres, all weres have some similarities. One of them being that they will always transform on the day of a full moon and will be unable to transform whatsoever on the day of a new moon. The only ones who are an exception to this are hybrids, though if they have two different were curses in them then they will still be afflicted by the curse (i.e. a child who is half werecat and half werewolf).

Werewolf

Sometimes referred to as werecanine. These weres have the ability to shift from human to canine, including: wolves, dogs, jackals, foxes, and coyotes. The breed and type of canine depends mostly on genes and lineage. The 'Pure' in werewolf society are any who can shift to werewolves and originate from Purgatory.

Werecat

Sometimes referred to as a werefeline. These weres have the ability to shift from human to feline. That includes domestic and wild cats, tigers, panthers, leopards, lions, lynxes, cougars, bobcats, cheetahs, and ocelots. The breed and type of feline depends mostly on genes and lineage. The 'Chosen' in werecat society are any who can shift to tigers and they originate from Purgatory. There has been a steady increase of infighting between jaguars and tigers.

Werebird

These weres have the ability to shift from human to a bird. That includes, but not limited to, eagles, owls, chickens, hawks, falcons, parrot, toucans, cranes, geese, etc. The breed and type of bird depends mostly on genes and lineage. Unlike many of the other were creatures, werebirds do not have a specific breed that they view as superior. This might be due to having the greatest range of breeds and types. Many raptors are seen as bullies but even then, they have more in-fighting than anything else. This is also one of the only groups that do not originate from Purgatory.

Werebear

These weres have the ability to shift from human to a bear. That includes, black, grizzly, polar, panda, sloth, sun, speckled, etc. The breed and type of bear depends mostly on genes and lineage. Unlike many of the other were creatures, werebear culture is unique in that each species has their own characteristics that the culture look for. Typically werebear clans will include a variety of bear species. Grizzly bears originate from Purgatory and thus will never be a human turned were.

Wereserpent

These weres have the ability to shift from human to different species of serpents. The species and type of snake depends mostly on genes and lineage. Wereserpents are usually loners who don't stick close to others of their kind. A number of tribe wars have taken place between the different species of serpents for dominance. And, like birds, they do not originate from Purgatory whatsoever.

Other Were Creatures

There have been rumors that other were groups exist as well, such as were-equines, wererats, and wereweasels and even some others. Though it is possible for these were creatures to exist since a witch can create said curse at any time, their numbers have not yet reached a sufficient number that will cause the were society to add them in.
