The Fit Pawn

Inn of Forlage, with Kanthar Bolsterfence as its bartender.

Purpose / Function

In the Fit Pawn, many visitors would presume it is just a regular inn like any other. However, this is but a ruse.   Ask the bartender and owner, Kanthar Bolsterfence, for his special steamed potatoes and he will take you to a special place in his cellar..   A hideout for the Blomarian Cult Extermination Brotherhood! After the tower of Helmskeep got occupied by Necrochanglings and other bandits, the Brotherhood members took their refuge here. In the Fit Pawn, they eat, drink, talk and meet up with each other. The monthly meetings of the local Brotherhood members also happens here, and each time it is discussed how they should take back Helmskeep.

Alterations

The cellar of The Fit Pawn used to be a very big empty space. But after the defeat of the Brotherhood in Helmskeep, Kanthar made some fast and drastic alterations to this room.   Furniture like long dinner tables and seats was placed, several bunks for Brotherhood members who needed to hide were included.   Also, Kanthar made a second bar to accommodate the new denizens of his inn, to not alert any regular villagers of Forlage to the presence of the Brotherhood Members.   And true to style, he now stores most of his fresh potatoes here, supplied by the Lorhan Clan's many farms around Forlage.

History

There once was a lonely man in Forlage, who loved to chess. He was one of the best chess players around, but had very little people to play with. This, of course, made him sad.   Then, he saw another young man working in the farms of the Lorhan Clan. He was working insanely hard, shoveling earth and planting seedlings for the new harvest. The lonely man took his chance.   When the young man took a break from his work, the lonely man approached him.   "Would you like to play some chess with me, perhaps?"   To the lonely man's surprise, the young man was very happy about the proposal. He always wanted to play chess with somebody, but he never had time to find somebody to play, he was always farming.   After the initial meeting, they decided they would start playing chess once the harvest season had come to an end, so that means the entire month of Swarm Hark, when the lands are wet and barren. And so they did.   The lonely man taught the young man how to play chess, and he turned out to be quite the player. At some point, the lonely man thought:   "This is amazing. I can teach people how to play chess and in turn, i get a friend."   Inspired by this idea, the not so lonely man and the young man rented a vacant shack in the middle of Forlage . This became his new chess club, named the Fit Pawn. Many people were invited to learn chess from the two masters, and many people came.   But at some point, the young man had to go farming again. Swarm Hark was coming to an end and the farm seasons were starting again. Immensely saddened by the potential loss of his chess colleague for the Fit Pawn, the not so lonely man lost all interest in chess. But instead of abandoning him like he thought, the villagers he was teaching chess turned towards helping him. This is Forlage after all, and the villagers were not planning to let the lonely man abandon his dreams.   One of the villagers was from the Bolsterfence family. The villager proposed making the Fit Pawn a tavern, able to sustain itself and to give the lonely man a way to be amidst his friends. And so it happened. The Fit Pawn became one of the most bustling taverns that Budston knows, all because of the passion of two men and the big hearts of the Forlagers.   Although, the dream of the two men wasn't lost entirely. To this day, every Swarm Hark, when harvesting season was over, the Fit Pawn turns into a haven for chess players to sink their minds into. And until the end of their own days, the lonely man and the young man would play chess with each other.
