Lancer-class Battleship

The Lancer-class Battleship was a Keplarian design first produced in 1950 AD. It featured cutting edge shielding technologies, sensors and targeting systems, as well as armaments that would make even Dreadnoughts think twice before directly engaging even one of these ships. The Lancer-class was designed to fill a singular role in the Keplarian Imperium Navy; provide a fleet with overwhelming firepower and survivability.   The Lancer's main selling point for the Keplarian High Command was the use of two new types of components; X-GEN Shielding and Hybrid Plasma Accelerators (HPAs). X-GEN Shielding, or Experimental Generation Shielding, used new Positron and Antiproton generation methods to increase shield regeneration rate, the rate at which a shield could be raised or redirected and drastically reduce the size of individual shield hexes, while HPAs were a new devastating type of weapon, which made use of super-heated Tungsten Plasma containing an Insperium Warhead. This projectile is magnetically accelerated via a three-rod Railgun at over Mach 40 towards a target. The sheer velocity of the HPA class of weapon extended the maximum firing range of the Lancer to over 150% of the previous Keplarian Battleship; the Goliath II-class Battleship.   Lancers saw service during The Zylonian Border Skirmishes in 1953 AD, The 3rd Galactic War in 1989 AD and The Interstellar War in 2065 AD before they were beginning to be phased out in favour of the Goliath III-class Battleship in 2148 AD within the Imperium Navy. When the Keplarian Imperium was defeated in 2165, many Lancers were acquired by the newly formed New Keplarian Republic. The Keplarian Imperium Remnant would continue to fight against the Keplarian-Human Alliance until 2177, when the final battlegroup of KI remnants was wiped out by a Joint Task Force consisting of 2 Lancer Battleships and several smaller Human vessels. The Lancer would go on to form the majority of the Battleship count of the Republic's naval inventory for the remainder of the 22nd Century until its permanent retirement in 2203.
