The Thurkearia Incident

The Attack
Thurkearia was a small herb town in The Swamp Lands. Three years ago it was destroyed by undead, leaving only three children as survivors. In the weeks prior to the attack Noachia received word that undead activity was increasing. Given its proximity to The Scar this did not strike the Three Dragons as unusual. However it soon became apparent that if something was not done soon it would get out of hand.
A unit of soldiers was dispatched to the town to increase security but when the unit arrived they found only a desolate town of undead. Unable to make contact with any survivors and unwilling to risk his men for a ghost town, Commander Daxen Kilgrax ordered a full retreat. This did not sit well with some of the men. A young Lieutenant in particular named Torrin Norixus decided to disobey the order and led a relatively small group of men in an assault on the town. They managed to chew through the undead making steady progress. Slowly more and more of the unit was inspired to join the assault. After a full day of fighting they had managed to clear the town.
While looking for survivors Torrin found a cellar covered by a body. Removing the corpse and smashing the lock he found three small dragonborn children inside. They looked like they had been down there for days. The soldiers then buried the dead and returned to Noachia with the survivors where Torrin had his parents use their medical expertise to look after the recovery of the children.   The Aftermath
Immediately after the incident was reported to the Three Dragons, they ordered that Torrin be stripped of his rank and thrown in jail for disobeying orders. Fortunately for Torrin, when the news broke of his deeds, he was hailed as a hero and the public demanded that he be freed. The Three Dragons stubbornly refused to go back on their decision and protests became a daily occurrence.
Meanwhile, Torrins great grandmother Necath Norixus, at the time a Deaconess with The Sect of the Tempus Prophets, began pushing to make Torrin a paladin as paladins can only be punished by the church thus granting Torrin relative immunity from The Three Dragons retaliation. Seeing the valor and zeal with which Torrin displayed The Sect agreed to the appointment. After two weeks in jail Torrin took the oath of Tempus. Torrin was sworn in as a Paladin, given the rank of Captain, and released from prison. The Three Dragons, embarrassed but unable to retaliate legitimately, ordered that Torrin be stationed away from the capital. His current whereabouts are not public, however rumors are that he is in Grovisvia.
The three surviving children were taken in by the Norixus family until they found permanent homes. Most notable of which was Roake Ragnaill of House Ragnaill taking in one of the boys as his sons valet.
While it is widely accepted that the incident was just a freak occurrence from being so close to The Scar, no official cause was ever agreed upon.
