Blue

Alec Upton is currently the greatest living user of the "Blue" power, so named because of how, upon first triggering, it turns the hair and eyes of anyone with it irreversibly blue. What little study has been done on the power indicates that it allows a user's cells to rapidly disgorge much of their fluid content and to separate from one another. In practice, this allows a person with the power set to take on a semi-solid form.   Alec and his siblings can use this power to gain an enhanced amount of conscious control over their cellular makeup, allowing them to deform their shape, stretch and squash themselves, adhere to surfaces and reconfigure their anatomy to appear however they wish. Often the way that Alec would maintain his secret identity was to obscure his facial features as a featureless mask, giving him the occasional moniker of No-face or the Faceless Man.

Early Life

  Alec Upton grew up in a fairly normal nuclear family in many ways, with the only difference being the miraculous advent of the "Blue" power in each of the family's three children. While it appeared in each of them at different ages, it necessitated extra teachings from their parents about self control and responsibility, leaving Alec with an enhanced sense of duty to his family and the world as a whole.  

Pre-Hero Life

  As he grew older, this sense of duty began to pervade every aspect of Alec's life, leading him naturally to a career in law enforcement. He enrolled in police academy in order to learn how best to protect his fellow man. Given his abilities, Alec excelled in any physical challenges but occasionally found it difficult to apply his knowledge in the classroom.   Nevertheless, Alec eventually graduated from the academy and found himself a job in the Bathala City Police Department as a police constable, but still felt that with his powers he could be doing more. It wasn't long until he started going out in the evenings to fight crime as one of the first archetypal superheroes.  

Early Superhero Career

  Taking on the name Blue, Alec would use his powers to disguise his identity by shifting away his features and would take to the night looking for crime to stop. It didn't take long for him to build something of a reputation in the criminal underworld and with it came the ever-watching eyes of Schurk Industries, who eventually sent out a pair of agents to take him down. With agents Lithium and Iodine on his tail, it took everything he had to keep one step ahead and eventually decided to go on the offensive, breaking into a covert Schurk facility in order to find out what exactly they get up to within.   Inside the facility, dubbed Foundation Exelsior, he discovered a complex operation run by a woman codenamed the Siren which seemed to be working to indoctrinate a number of school-age children into loyalty to the company, instilling a sense of fanatisism into what was no-doubt a new generation of agents. It was during this time that he met, briefly battled with and eventually befriended the hero Shade, who's quest to expose Schurk had brought her to the exact same place with a video camera and big ideas of bringing the whole thing down. Shade's moxie and determination quickly endeared her to Alec and the two grew close, teaming up repeatedly to cause problems for Schurk Industries and raise awareness of the good superheroics can do.      

The Railyard Raid

  Just like he'd done with Shade, Alec soon began meeting various other superhumans and started collecting contacts, culminating on the night of the BCPD raid on the old rail yard where many of the city's most unseemly elements had seemingly made their base of operations. The raid was aimed primarily at striking a blow against the city's drug trade, though any subsequent damage to the prostitution, vagrancy, and underground fighting scenes was a bonus. The operation soon devolved into a brawl and Alec took it upon himself to chase down a fleeing superhuman who'd evaded capture.   Alec proceeded to chase Rachel Stevens up onto a roof and the two fought to a stalemate, neither able to decisively counter the other. Soon they each called it quits and began talking, Rachel explaining her position that there were good people among those being arrested and that they should be helped, not punished. Alec was moved by her impassioned plea and agreed to let her show him what life was like for those on the other side of the tracks.   Over the coming weeks, Alec and Rachel became firm friends and he started to see the people of the Railyard for what they were, not criminals but a community of people simply doing what they can to survive in a City that didn't want them. Helping Rachel had effectively helped to change the type of hero Alec wanted to be. Less about taking down criminals, and more about protecting the people.   Formation of the Vigil   Versus the Spider   Post-Exposure

Alec Upton holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminology from the University of Bathala. From there, he joined the The Bathala City Police Department as a trainee wherein he earned a Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice. Since then, as part of his development as a police officer and eventually a detective, he underwent special learning in fields such as crime scene investigation, forensic psychology, and advanced interviewing techniques. He has also completed several courses on leadership and management, as well as specialized training in firearms, self-defence, and emergency response. Overall, Alec Upton has a comprehensive education history in both academic and practical aspects of law enforcement, enabling him to perform his duties effectively and efficiently.

Outside of his work as leader of the Vigil, Alec is also a well-respected missing persons detective working on a freelance basis for the Bathala City Police Department, having worked his way up through the ranks before his dismissal and as a private investigator since.

Alec successfully brought together various superheroes he'd met on his travels to form The Vigil when the city needed them the most. He then proceeded to negotiate a deal with the local government to install them as an official branch, with funding and special powers.

Alec is motivated by a strong sense of duty instilled within him at a young age by his family. He believes in the ideals of fairness and perfect justice and strives to leave the world a better place than when he entered it. As his notoriety has increased, so too has his sense of personal responsibility, feeling that with people looking to him for leadership or example, it's more important than ever to show people that they can always strive to be better and uplift others along the way.

Alec was born as the middle child of three. Dr Indigo Upton, his younger sister currently works at the Blackmoore Hospital for the criminally insane, whereas Anthony Upton, his older brother, is serving in the Royal Marines corps. Both his siblings inherited the same power set as him but decided to leave most of the superheroing to their more adventurous brother, though the latter has made use of his powers during field missions as required.   Both of Alec's parents, Charles and Amanda Upton, are alive and well, living in a gated retirement community on the coast. Neither of the two have shown any signs of obvious mutation, leaving the origin of the "Blue" power a mystery.
