Gallus Greyhelm

Gallus Greyhelm is a wizard who has traveled the world seeking bastions of power that he can harness to his will. He has many a time used deceit to achieve his goals. The most notable being his part in the burning of the Coedwig Forest.

A Wizards Lament   At a young age, Gallus had shown great potential for the arcane. His parents sent him off to the Cheldry Academy so he could learn wizardry. While at the academy he fell in love with a fellow classmate, Doris Vens. Doris was quite the reckless mage and often drug Gallus into the middle of her plans. During a lesson in summoning, Doris decided to distract the instructor causing him to mess up the summoning circle. This mistake accidentally summoned a very powerful demon who proceeded to kill the instructor and the students. The demon, Gatzultrub thanked Doris for her meddling and offered her unimaginable power if she killed Gallus, who she loved. Gallus, fearing for his life, watched Doris slowly walk toward him with a dagger in hand. She stood over him and a warm, happy smile spread across her face. She turned to the demon and said “give him the power” and plunged the knife into her heart. Falling back into Gallus’ arms, where she died with a smile.
The demon, impressed with the girls sacrifice laughed and cast a spell at Gallus, sealing his essence within Gallus. Now filled with an immense and uncontrollable power, and a deeps sorrow, Gallus fled the academy.


Inner Turmoil
As the years went on Gallus traveled Bastion seeking power in an attempt to remove the demon sealed inside him. However the malicious entity inside him began to affect his judgment. His actions took on a slightly more evil nature, part of him embraced this as it was the fast track to power, but the other part rejected it; knowing full well that it would do him much more harm than good. Sadly, the evil nature often won out.

The Burning of Coedwig
  During an excursion into the lands of Ghairon, Gallus was planning to summon Pal'Rathar, the Grand Phoenix  in a scheme to steal its power. He knew the magic of the Coedwig forest would be enough to tear a rift into the Fire Realms and bring Pal'Rathar into the material plane.   He began his plan by allying with a band of Gnolls and convincing them to attack a local village of Firbolg. This led the firbolg to become desperate for help. Gallus, posing as a wounded traveler, made his way to the village where he was "nursed" back to health. He won the trust of the village and promised to help them stay off the attacking gnolls! He taught a ritual to one young firbolg, a ritual he claimed would bring forth a powerful ally to help save the forest!   The young firbolg went forth and began to cast this ritual, all the while Gallus watched from the shadows. The ritual did bring forth a powerful being, but simultaneously burned the forest! At this moment, Gallus started to channel the energy of the burning forest to capture Pal'Rathar. The phoenix proved to be much more that Gallus could handle, causing him to have to teleport away before his plan could be achieved.   Current Whereabouts
  Since this incident Gallus has maintained a low profile, however it is rumored that he has been seen at the port of the Urg Empire on Bastia.
