Modular Armor

One of the staples of hunter equipment is the modular armor. Be it by utilizing servos in its joints, an underlayer of artificial muscles, strategically placed hydraulics or a combination of all the above, customizable armors allow for a higher degree of protection by increasing the amount of material that can be worn. The support given by the main systems assist the user in carrying the weight of the armor, allowing for bulkier and heavier armor with less of a drawback.

Light armor is the most basic classification of modular armors. Using minimal plating its main systems just about negate the weight of the worn armor, giving a higher focus on dexterity at the tradeoff of protection. This allows for light armor to be used for both intensive fights as well as tasks requiring subtlety, with its low material costs making it the cheapest of the modular armors.

Medium armor is more widely used then its light counterpart. The level of plating does put strain on the user as the main systems can't handle the full weight, yet it still allows for a decent level of dexterity. With a thickness capable of stopping direct hits from weaker rounds the medium armor is the staple of combat. Medium armor is favored by both melee and ranged classes, and even some spell casters.

Heavy armor is the most defensive orientated armor. The main systems of the can generally only handle a third of a heavy armors bulk, bogging down the user and making precise movements much harder. However, for some the tradeoff is worth it as the protection gained is enough to stop some vehicles dead in their tracks. It must be noted though that a user must possess both a certain level of strength and experience with a heavy armor to use it effectively in combat.

While the weight reduction capabilities of the modular armors main system are good, it is not the main strength of the modular armor. The main strength is instead the customization of the modular armor. From swapping the plates to a lighter alloy for more dexterity, a tougher alloy for more defense or adding additional subsystems, the modular armor specializes in being flexible enough to fit any situation, even being able to be modified in the field if the user is competent enough.

Upgrades include but are not limited to:

  • aim enhancers
  • melee enhancers
  • backup weapons
  • concealed weapons
  • quick use item slots
  • stealth capabilities
  • tasers
  • thrusters
  • smoke dispensers
  • detection sensors
  • and many more

Though he modular armor that is capable of being produced of current is impressive, they are only a shadow of what they used to be. A relic modular armor is not only capable of supporting the entire mass of the armor, but even exceed it, granting strength and dexterity to their user. Their subsystems alone can level a building while even the lightest of relic armors is able to survive current high caliber rounds with only a few scratches. If it weren't for the marvels of some relic technology, one could argue that relic armor is one of the best things that could be found in a ruin.
