Behan
Level 3 Village
Overview
Behan is a forest town on a lake fed to by a river that comes from the NE and heads to the SW. A solid 30% of the lake is made of houseboats and floating docks where people live and do commerce with what commerce is water based. The rest of the town is vastly vertical. Think the "stacks" from Ready Player One There isn't much room to spread out, so through clever construction, the city has built up The forest the town is in is vast and hostile, so logging is minimal, hunting is sparse, so meat is vastly trade and fishing. The town is ruled by the Baron Henriq Kythil. He's a gentle tyrant as it were. Because the town is so remote and difficult to get to, the laws of the Four Kingdoms do not hold sway here. The Baron has established himself as an arbiter, though it is known (but never spoken of) that he directly benefits from the illicit trade. While most of the trade traffic comes from the Long Wooded Road and the River Thell, there is also trade with the few indigenous tribes of Kobolds that dwell in the forests.History
There is no recorded early dates of when people began to settle in the area. However, local and regional stories tell a small clearing off the river where traders could moor their boats over night. Later as trails and roads developed, it became a refuge from banditry. And ultimately, as time progressed, it became something of a permanent trade post. It wasn't until approximately 300 years ago, during one church-led "Purification crusade" in the Four Kingdoms, that a large contingent of exiles sought safety in the vast forest. Minor politicians and some of the bandit leaders came together to form an outpost then village, then township. Taken from the names of the two most effective and influential leaders Marquen Betris and Lissia HanKendir, Behan was born.
