Isle of Voritica

The Isle of Voritica is a rumor- a myth. There is ultimately no real proof that it has ever existed. Legends say its an island consumed by fog, where everything just isn't quite right. Sailors who claim to have seen the island say that there is no sea life within miles. They also say that the movement of the fog that covers the entirety of the island's surface moves unnaturally. There are several sailors that claim to have been to the island, but none seem capable of remembering where they saw it. Brave adventurers have gone out in search of the Isle of Voritica, but none have been able to find it. There have, however, been several ships that have been found along the ocean floor that seem to have crashed into land despite being found in the middle of nowhere. Some sailors attribute these crashes to the Isle, claiming the Isle itself moves throughout the sea. However, whether the Isle is actually real or a shared hallucination remains a mystery- and likely forver will.

Geography

The Isle of Voritica is said to be a small island that is mostly flat and just above sea level, with a mountain in the middle that escapes the smoke that engulfs the island. Those who claim to have seen it say that the entire island is unnaturally pale and gray, from the sand to the grass to the trees- and not just because of the fog. They say its almost as if all color has been removed from the island, and all that's left is grey.

Fauna & Flora

Those who claim to have visited the Isle of Voritica say that the island is made up of a forest of pale willow trees, with shrubbery as pale as ghosts. Nobody can name any animals they saw on the Isle, but several people insist there was movement on the island just beyond the fog, and that something -or somethings- were watching them. There's even a man who claims to have seen glowing yellow eyes that just stared, never coming closer than a few yards, but always there- always watching.

History

There are reports of sightings of the Isle of Voritica going back hundreds of years. Whenever there's a new sighting of the Isle of Voritica, tales of the Isle oft spread across Ayrath, but within a few months they die down once more. New sightings of the Isle seem to happen once every few years, with no clear rhyme of reason for why- those who find the Isle tend to be off in search of new lands, or simply sailors who went out a tad too far whilst out fishing. None who have gone out in search of the Isle have ever found it, almost like some entity controlling it doesn't want them too. However, that would require the Isle to be real in the first place. By the present day, many people of the mainland believe that the Isle is nothing more than a sailor's myth, but those who go out at sea do believe in the Isle's existence.

Name Origins
The Isle of Voritica's name originates from the Spirit of Voritica. Early in the days after the Isle had been discovered, rumors began to circle that the Isle was home to the Spirit of Voritica, the place where it occupied while not interfering with the mainland of Ayrath. Not all who believe in the Isle's existence believe in the origin of its name, however, as it is unproven- in fact, the Spirit of Voritica is as much as a myth as the Isle of Voritica is.
