Slimefolk

Basic Information

Anatomy

Slimefolk are unique shapeshifters who can exist in two primary forms:
  • Core Slime Form: A semi-liquid, amorphous body capable of shifting shape at will. In this form they often appear as spheres, flowing masses, or spear-like extensions of their body, able to move fluidly in multiple directions.
  • Humanoid Form: A human- or elf-like body, with skin tones similar to humans or elves. Their hair and eyes always match the color of their slime core, typically vivid shades of blue, pink, purple, yellow, or orange.
Their bodies are elastic and flexible, giving them resilience against physical harm but making them less suited for raw strength.

Biological Traits

Slimefolk naturally emit a faint aura of mana, which shapes how they perceive the world.
  • Perception Aura: Rather than relying on normal sight, they “feel” the presence of their surroundings through the low-level mana they give off.
  • Healing Affinity: They are exceptionally talented with healing and restorative magic, learning it faster than most other races.
  • Enhancement Limitation: Standard enhancement magic does not affect them properly due to their elastic physiology. Instead, spells must be reworked or customized for their bodies, or cast externally by another mage.

Growth Rate & Stages

  • Infancy (0–3 years): A small, weak slime mass, often cared for in groups by the community.
  • Youth (4–15 years): Capable of forming stable humanoid shapes, though often unstable or imperfect.
  • Adolescence (16–40 years): Magic begins to flourish, with healing talents and limited shape-shifting mastered.
  • Adulthood (41–80 years): Fully capable of maintaining both humanoid and slime forms. Adventurers often emerge in this stage.
  • Elderhood (81–100 years): Mana flow slows and elasticity weakens, making transformations more difficult.

Ecology and Habitats

Slimefolk are adaptable, but they thrive in mana rich environments, such as forests, river valleys, and wetlands. They also form small communities near human and elven cities, where they often take roles as healers, entertainers, or alchemists.

Behaviour

Slimefolk are known for their cheerful, optimistic personalities.
  • Cheerful: They tend to be lighthearted and sociable, often lifting the mood of a group.
  • Cautious: Despite their optimism, they remain careful about strangers, preferring to avoid unnecessary risks.
  • Adaptive: Their flexible nature carries into their mindset, allowing them to adjust quickly to changing situations.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

  1. Sight & Hearing: Weaker than most species when in humanoid form.
  2. Taste & Smell: Similar to humans, though slightly heightened due to their fluid biology.
  3. Touch: Different from most species their elastic bodies perceive pressure, temperature, and mana flow rather than conventional tactile sensation.
  4. Mana Sense: Their faint aura constantly interacts with the world, giving them a unique sense of spatial awareness.
Lifespan
100 years
Average Height
4.5” – 6’2” (in humanoid form) 1 "- 2" (slime Form)
Average Weight
Varies widely depending on slime mass typically 90–180 lbs
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Humanoid skin tones match humans or elves. Hair and eyes always mirror the color of their slime core, which comes in blue, pink, purple, yellow, or orange. In slime form, their bodies glow faintly with mana of the same hue.
