Human
Basic Information
Anatomy
Humans are bipedal with two arms, ten fingers, and ten toes. They have round skulls, paired ears, and a facial structure composed of two eyes (with round pupils), a nose, and a mouth. Hair density varies by region, with most having thin body hair and thicker hair on their heads. Males often grow facial hair as well.
Biological Traits
Magic
All humans possess mana, but they must learn how to shape and use it. Unlike some other species in Averia, humans rarely have innate mastery; instead, their strength lies in study, practice, and structured growth.- Spellcasting: Many humans channel their mana into scriptural magic, inscribing runes or invoking ritual and quick-cast spells. This structured approach requires training but grants versatility.
- Physical Channeling: Others learn to direct mana into their bodies, enhancing physical ability, martial techniques, or specialized skills.
- Hybrid Styles: Most human adventurers rely on a mixture of quick-cast spells, mana-infused abilities, and magical gear or foci to produce the dramatic “heroic blasts” celebrated in legends.
Growth Rate & Stages
- Humans are considered infants between the ages of zero to four, during which time they were completely dependent on their parents for food and care. They gradually pick up mobility and world awareness.
- The next stage is kids who learn, play, and grow between the ages of five to twelve. Although kids are not as dependent on their parents at this point, they are still present to meet the majority of their needs. However, young kids are inquisitive and beginning to understand others and themselves. People have a saying that a young child always hears and retains everthing. My favorite saying from my friends at the bar is “Kids are just little people who become truth drunks”.
- Between the ages of 13 to 25, their bodies begin to evolve and develop into adults, which is referred to as the teenage years. Their physical body begins to gain figure, height, weight, and muscles. In most situations, this is also where mana develops it a place to start train your mana into what you want use it for. In most circumstances, they will also begin to establish their identity and become less reliant on their parents.
- From the ages of 26 to 109, they are in their adulthood, their bodies have matured, and they have a good sense of what their natural magic will do. It will continue to develop as they age, but in most cases, it has a set of talents.
- From 110 to roughly 160 years of age, they are elders; their bodies have gradually begun to slow down and become weaker, as have their magical talents if they are not kept up with. Other people regard them as wise because they have lived a lengthy life for a human. This is the human life cycle.
Ecology and Habitats
Humans are found throughout Elema, capable of surviving in nearly every biome thanks to their combined understanding of magic, science, and nature. They build settlements, cities, and empires in forests, deserts, tundras, and beyond.
Behaviour
Humans are naturally curious, prideful, and stubborn. These traits drive them to seek answers, even when the path is unclear, and to stand firm once they believe they’ve found truth. Their determination often manifests in different ways:
- Curiosity: A relentless drive to explore, learn, and uncover what lies beyond their current understanding.
- Pride: A strong sense of self, pushing them to prove their worth, uphold their beliefs, or defend their accomplishments.
- Stubbornness: The refusal to yield, whether in defending loved ones, proving themselves correct, or simply enduring the struggles of everyday life.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Humans perceive and understand the world through their five primary senses: sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch, much like many other species in Averia. Their sensory abilities are considered average compared to others, placing them solidly in the middle range across most categories.
- Sight: Human vision allows them to perceive the world in three dimensions, including light and shadow. However, their range of night vision or perception of fine magical auras is weaker than that of Demi-Dragons.
- Hearing: Humans can detect a wide variety of sounds but not with the distance or clarity of elven ears.
- Smell: Their sense of smell is adequate but duller compared to demonkind, who can track scents across great distances.
- Taste & Touch: Both senses are well-rounded, serving as reliable but unremarkable tools of perception.
