Demi Dragon

Basic Information

Anatomy

Demi Dragons share a largely human frame, though their bodies are marked by draconic traits. From their knees to their feet and from elbows to fingertips, their limbs are covered in thick, durable scales. Smaller scales cover the rest of their bodies, blending with their skin. Distinguishing features include pointed ears, slit pupil eyes of vibrant colors, a tail, and wings strong enough to grant flight. Their skin is tougher than most humanoids, offering natural protection.

Biological Traits

Demi-Dragons are renowned for their natural connection to magic.
  • Mana Pool: They possess some of the largest natural mana reserves among mortal species.
  • Elemental Affinity: Demi-Dragons learn and wield elemental magic with ease, often displaying talent for multiple elements.
  • Sixth Sense: They can feel disturbances in magical energy around them. The stronger the magic, the easier it is to detect.
  • Physical Resistances: Their bodies endure extremes of heat and cold, while their scales grant protection against physical blows and minor elemental effects.

Growth Rate & Stages

  • Infancy (0–4 years): Small, winged, and scale-covered from birth. Dependence on parents is high.
  • Youth (5–20 years): Begin to learn flight and simple elemental control. Their scales harden during this stage.
  • Adolescence (21–60 years): Magical senses sharpen, wings grow stronger, and mana reserves expand. They begin structured training.
  • Adulthood (61–160 years): Prime stage of life; magic and flight mastery reach their peak. Many take on roles as guardians, scholars, or explorers.
  • Elderhood (161–180 years): Aging reduces stamina but magical senses and mana pools remain vast. Elders often become teachers or community leaders.

Ecology and Habitats

Demi Dragons prefer high regions mountain ranges, cliffside settlements, or areas where they can soar freely. They often build homes of stone reinforced with magic, adapted to the rugged terrain.

Behaviour

Demi Dragons are known for their strong yet quirky personalities.
  • Kleptomaniac Streak: Many develop habits of collecting or hoarding shiny or curious items, much like their draconic ancestors.
  • Honorable: They respect promises and traditions, often holding themselves to personal codes of conduct.
  • Stubborn: Once set on a course, they rarely back down, even against great odds.
This mix of stubborn honor and playful kleptomania makes demi-dragons both respected and endearingly troublesome companions.
