Aura Sight
Aura Sight is the most commonly used spell for perceiving magic. When activated, the user gains the ability to see and read actively flowing magical energy and auras surrounding items, creatures, and enchanted gear.
The spell provides basic but valuable information, such as elemental types, general strengths, and a few other minor magical details. While it does not reveal complex enchantment formulas or hidden effects, it offers a reliable overview of how magic is behaving within an object.
Aura Sight is an essential tool for enchanters, artificers, and spellcrafters working with enchanted items, allowing them to ensure that magical output, energy flow, and stability are functioning properly before an item is used or finalized.
Effect
When Aura Sight is activated, the wielder’s eyes glow with their own aura color. While the spell is active, they can perceive the magical auras of all living creatures within their line of sight, as well as any magical items or enchanted gear.
By reading these auras, the user can gauge the strength of the magic present and assess its stability determining whether an enchantment is functioning properly, at risk of rupture, or already destabilizing. Through subtle fluctuations and wave patterns within the aura, the user can also identify the intent of the magic, such as whether it is destructive, enhancing, defensive, or supportive in nature.
Side/Secondary Effects
Warning for New Casters
New practitioners of Aura Sight should exercise caution. Prolonged use, or exposure to especially powerful auras while still inexperienced, can cause intense eye strain and tension headaches. Attempting to push through this discomfort will only worsen the effects.
There are documented cases of novice casters suffering migraines lasting several days after overexerting themselves. Learners are strongly advised to approach the spell gradually, allowing their endurance and tolerance to build naturally over time.
Gestures & Ritual
The most common gesture for Aura Sight involves placing two fingers upright along the bridge of the nose and focusing inward as the spell is cast. Another widely used variation is placing two fingers against each temple simultaneously while activating the spell.
Both gestures serve as focusing techniques, helping the caster align their perception and concentrate on the flow of magical auras.
Regardless of the gesture used, as the caster speaks the spell’s incantation and visualizes the magic circle in their mind, the circle manifests within their eyes. Magical energy then overlays their irises, marking the spell’s activation and attuning their vision to auras.
