Gemcutting
"It's every gemcutter's dream to find a priceless gem stuck in the stone. To work the tools with master's grace and extricate a gem that could buy castles. So far my personal best was a diamond worth 235,000 gold pieces. That's incredibly impressive where I'm from." - from the verbatims of Malda Gemkind
Utility
Mechanically speaking, here's how the homebrew gemcutting rules work.
Gemcutting allows you to double the value of a gem by clearing up the cut. The danger is that if you fail the DC you damage the gemstone and it becomes worth only half of its original uncut value. Only gems worth at least 50 gold pieces can be improved.
