Elemental Barons

The Elemental Barons embody their chosen element in its great and terrible entirety. They work alongside the Twilight Court to maintain the weather, climate, and seasons within the Material Plane. This partnership, drafted by Baroness Lutea and Empress Titania, is considered one of the most iron clad and detailed contracts ever drafted in the history of the planes.

The elemental planes flow seamlessly into one another in perfect harmony. This harmony has led to the discovery of new elementally inclined spells and the kineticist arts seen in Phoenix today.

The barons are primarily worshiped within their respective planes, but elementalist temples have slowly begun to crop up in Wasteland settlements as well as within the Solspathí Diocese.

Structure

Each elemental plane is ruled over by one of the six barons. They are equal in power and often meet to ensure that their planes are still interacting in tandem with one another. Baroness Kasumi rules over Altiora, Baron Akachi rules over Terra, Baron Pyros rules over Igneus, Baron Render rules over Metallicus, Baroness Terror rules over Immergo, and Baroness Lutea rules over Natura.

Each baron has their own style of leadership within their home plane; however, each of them consistently rely on feedback from their people as well as their fellow barons to ensure that their people are taken care of, and their planes remain balanced.

History

Before the Elemental Barons were beings known as the Elemental Tyrants. The tyrants ruled over their planes separately and held a deep disdain towards one another. Despite their hatred, they were able to get their tasks done, or so the few surviving antediluvian records in existence say. The Thousand Year Flood changed this, rather than chose a side of order or chaos, the Elemental Tyrants shut their planes off to the outside planes completely. The isolation soon led the tyrants to focus their paranoia and anger onto their own subjects. This behavior would go unnoticed for centuries as the Thousand Year Flood raged on.

Five years after the conclusion of the Thousand Year Flood; however, Ki and her heralds noted that even though the Elemental Tyrants were confirmed to have survived the Thousand Year Flood, they have not resumed their duties of maintaining the climate of the various worlds within the Material Plane. Confused as to why they would leave their duties to her, Ki instructed Bahamut to investigate the meaning behind this absence. Bahamut found himself run out of every single plane by the vicious followers of tyrants who refused to work in tandem. He reported his findings to Ki who devised a plan to try to get the tyrants to work together once more.

Her plan involved finding six elementally inclined adventurers to form a party and serve as a demonstration that the tyrants should be working in tandem instead of separated. Bahamut employed the assistance of an exiled shuyookh that he met in his travels, a genie named Lutea, to serve as the representative of wood as well as a resource for learning about elemental politics. Lutea explained that this prejudice between the elementals has always been there, but the Thousand Year Flood brought it to the surface, she also came with an idea on just who she wanted to represent the element of fire. Lutea had heard through some allies in Diabolis that Dominus Kalugal had captured a mysterious warrior from another world who burned like thousands of suns. Lutea advised that the best group for this operation would be adventurers prepared for treasure hunting or thievery.

Bahamut took this recommendation seriously and began a search throughout the Material Plane to find four suitable adventurers. He discovered an azarketi privateer within the Vast named Terror who had a silver tongue and blades to match. In the Cryptlands, he met a shisk miner and engineer named Akachi who could build anything as easily as he could take it apart. In a nomadic traveling circus, he met a kitsune acrobat named Kasumi who was more at home in the air than on solid ground. Within the capital city of Asmelum, Nakhan, he encountered an automaton named Render who boasted that they could cut through anything. With their team assembled, Bahamut and Lutea formed their plan on how they would break this mysterious fiery warrior out of his imprisonment.

Their heist went off without a hitch with Bahamut serving as a distraction for Dominus Kalugal and Lutea leading the escape plan. The warrior agreed to assist the adventurers in their plan to confront the Elemental Tyrants with his freedom and the team was fully formed.

What was intended as a show of cooperation became a fight for their lives. While the adventurers were able to curry favor with the people of each of the planes, the Elemental Tyrants took exception to their presence and each one lashed out at the party. Having no other options, the adventurers battled the tyrants one by one. This proved to the planes that the six elements working in tandem were far more efficient than one acting alone.

The denizens of the planes encouraged these heroes to step into the role of leadership within the planes and lead them to a new era of cooperation.
