The Adventuring Guild
The Adventuring Guild is one of the largest organizations in all Avarha, not far behind the Skywatcher Institute when it comes to the number of recognized members.
Structure
Each guildhouse in each city has its own Head who oversees the day-to-day functions of the guildhouse, and who communicates with other guild heads as needed. They will also come together for a meeting to discuss any issues that might affect all the guilds in Avarha.
Public Agenda
The Adventuring Guild will provide quests to its members that involve anything but murder or assassination. Some may offer those jobs discreetly to the right members, but no guildhouse wants to be associated with such crimes as it would lead to the closing of that guild location. The guild head themself could even be held accountable. All other requests for assistance of any kind may be offered, though some guild locations may be more strict in only offering quests with high rewards.
History
The Adventuring Guild was started by the Skywatcher Institute to facilitate the investigation of reported events following a Realm Conjunction where it might be too dangerous for Skywatchers to investigate themselves. A network of guild locations were established in all major cities in Avarha over time, and eventually the guild was allowed to make its own rules while still working with the Skywatchers. The Adventuring Guild is now an independent organization that provides jobs, also known as quests, for its registered members, many of which come from the Skywatcher Institute. Others who use the guild include wealthy citizens, governments in need of mercenaries, and charities working on behalf of those who may need help but can't afford to pay.
Territories
Establishing a new guildhouse can be done by anyone with experience in the operation of one. Most often it is retired adventurers who seek to start new guilds in smaller cities or those that are growing rapidly. All one truly needs is a location and the means to take job requests from others.
However, to be a truly respected Head of an Adventuring guildhouse, one should also have the approval of other guilds in the same area, as well as the Skywatcher Institute. This will allow the prospective new guild to communicate magically with others, sharing job requests across guildhouses via an enchanted book. It will also decrease the risk of rivalry between guilds if a positive relationship is established first.
Ideally, new guilds should also employ someone to keep records of the registered adventuring groups working in the area, as well as quest results. A purser should also be employed to give payment upon job completion and to oversee the guild's finances. Additional scribes or archivists can be employed as needed.
