The company is run by a group of mysterious, wealthy founders who started Realm Ventures as a means of growing their wealth - though they will claim it is for the good of those who require rare materials from other realms who are the true inspiration for their ideas.

A number of researchers who have questionable relationships with the Skywatcher Institute work to pinpoint the best means of entering other realms, finding the materials desired, and returning the materials to Avarha.

The first workers expected to be sent to other realms are known as the Vanguard. They are a group largely made of violent criminals who will be expected to secure the areas around where the mining or harvesting of materials will take place.

The next workers expected to be sent are the ones who will be expected to gather the materials the company desires. The details of how long they, as well as the Vanguard, will remain outside of Avarha has not been made public. All questions about this detail are ignored when the company officials discuss the plans publicly, especially when speaking to possible investors - including officials at prisons and poorhouses expected to supply the labor.

Realm Ventures began as a way to facilitate the acquisition of rare resources and materials from other realms in a way that is more dependable than the traditional method of waiting for a Realm Conjunction to bring resources to Avarha. Realm Conjunctions are not a reliable means of acquiring resources due to the random nature of the transfer of materials between realms during these times. It cannot be reliably predicted where materials from other realms will appear or in what quantity - if at all. These materials are often used in potions and spellcraft, making them highly valuable for the most potent magic. The wealthy founders of Realm Ventures have been working to resolve the issues involved in the harvesting of these rare materials for some time, and formally founded the company in 5525 AA to begin putting their plans into action.
