The 7 Tribes Demons

That the 7 Tribes Demons had been allowed to live in virtual peace on the material plane, specifically, on the continent of Autuaga, wasn't merely luck. The demons worked hard to maintain the tolerance if not acceptance by other peoples who called Autauga home.   From the beginning of their freedom from the deep darkness below the material plane, they had celebrated with joy. But each of those who had escaped the under world, knew in their hearts that they would have to make themselves useful to the other peoples of Autauga to not merely be tolerated, but also to be accepted.   The first generation of the 7 Tribes had held a tribal council within a month of their arrival. First they would send out scouts to see what manner of beings lived on this land. They had learned its name was Autauga and that it harbored humans, elves, half-elves, hollie-elves, orcs, half-orcs, half-humans, along with a mind bending variety of peoples who seemed to fit into no one group in particular. Dwarves, half-angels; the list was long.   The scouts had encountered a great deal of fear and hostility and returned to the council to report. For seven days, the council met as they discussed, argued, and fought. Finally, after the bluster of the loudest of them all, the council decided they would have to come up with a way to be helpful to the other people occupying their little part of the material plane. That's when the real work began. None of the demons of the 7 Tribes who had escaped the lower planes had any idea how to be helpful. It wasn't something they had ever given thought to.   Finally, Admirale, the ugliest and perhaps meanest of the representatives of the council declared she had a solution.   The fighting and boasting stopped as she outlined her plan.   'We have magics that many of these kin-clade do not have access to. We must offer our help in the major occupational spaces where these kin-clade live. And no funny business. We must make ourselves indispensable." She pronounced the word carefully as if it were a new word in her vocabulary. When she realized the babble and rabble had become silent, she knew she was on to something. They all looked to her to explain what she meant. Admirale pretended she knew exactly what to do when suddenly she did know.   "What is the one thing the kin-clade fear above all?" Admirale watched as the other demons grunted, looked to each other, slapped backs and essentially stalled for time.   "They fear losing their souls. Demons, you have not felt such fear but for those whose souls belong to them, their greatest fear is losing them to the occupants of the lower planes that we ourselves have finally escaped. We may not own our souls but our lives are ours to live as we please if we can mingle with the kin-clade here on the material plane. Let us make ourselves teachers of the peoples here. We shall take on the job of teaching the kin-clade how to avoid losing their souls to the, ahem, occupants of the lower planes. "We shall send the youngest and least evil appearing of us among the kin-clade and present our services."   The rabble of Demon-kind danced their infernal mating dances, fought over mates, feasted, and boasted as all Demons do when given the chance.   But Admirale wasn't through. She had ideas about how to keep their group accepted in Autauga if not exactly welcomed. She halted the celebrations. "There's more."   She waited for them to finish their hedonistic infernal ritualistic dances and shouts. She waited to speak until she had their attention.   Admirale then told them they would have to follow rules they weren't used to or familiar with. "First, there will be no killing of non-Demons." She heard their moans but knew they were only making noises expected of Demons.   "There will be no uninvited mating with non-Demons." There was a great disappointed moaning among the Demons but they knew that to hide their presence here on the material plane, they must not draw the notice of those they had escaped and this was essential to their survival here.   "If one of our kind breaks the rules we establish, that one must face the council which we shall elect this night." More groans followed this statement and they were perhaps more heartfelt as the Demons only wanted to enjoy the freedom they had found on the material plane. The only pursuits they clamored for were mating, dancing, and feasting. They had left the lower planes because they didn't want to waste whatever days were left to them in fighting to the death for overlords who only saw them as ants, as possessions to bend to their stronger wills.   "No more Simbit' ca. We shall rule our own destinies from this night forward." With Admirale's final words, the Demons celebrated then. On the morrow, they would perform their onerous duty to go out and distribute the knowledge of their indispensability to the inhabitants of Autauga.   The 7 Demons Tribal council of 13 was formed.   The 7 Tribes Demons weren't accepted overnight in Autauga but after nearly 200 years of living amongst the residents of Autauga, the Demons had been accepted as part of their society. Now and then there was a problem but the Countil that presided over the Demons always responded with alacrity. Though the other peoples knew little about the culture of the 7 Tribes Demons, they knew they could count on them to help protect their young by teaching them how to avoid losing their souls and would always answer to a Demon who had broken a 7 Tribes Demon tribal law.
