Skin sacks
Skin sacks are containers designed to hold and preserve food or water. Often made of boar or wildebeast skin, they could be shaped and moulded into various designs then hardened using heat. They were originally meant to retain water, but some smaller foods such as seeds or berries could also be carried this way. The containers design and air tight structure meant that food lasted longer and stayed fresh.
Originally used by the northern tribes of Kaska Kun, the Skin Sacks were a good way to transport drinkable water or a food sources over long distances for their exploration into the southern lands. For a long time, the Kaskan tribes did not trust any water source other than ice and therefore felt the need to carry water from their homeland during their exploration.
Modern 'skin sacks' are made of plastic, but education and reduced exploration from the Kaskans has meant the use of these containers has all but died out. The Kaskan people now understand that river or lake water can be safe to drink and the increased number of towns and cities in Auros has meant that food and drink are more accessible for travelers.
In the newer city of Caso, large skin sacks were used to store wine. These containers were made of bear skins and while the design and use are almost identical, there is no evidence that one design pre-dates the other. 100s of large water skins could be found in underground wine cellars, the stitches and markings on them would indicate how long they had been stored. This method of storage and containment led to the ever popular brand name 'Bear wine' from the Bear Claws Company.
