Chadal - EN

Written by FirethornDragon

Chadal is one of the most well-known nations across the realm of Aurin. This country is best known for Merana - School for knights and soldiers and for having the largest navy fleet in Aurin. Their history and culture are deeply rooted in the military, which has shaped this fascinating country into what it is today.

The History of the Royal Family

The Royal Family Aris

The royal family of Aris has governed Chadal since its founding in 57 F.M. (Before Magic). The people of Chadal respect and honor the royal family. They are known for being some of the best tactical military minds in Chadal's history. Many members have fought alongside soldiers and knights in wars and battles on land and sea. The royal family built the navy and founded the school Merana. If a family member does not know how to fight or lead, it is considered shameful. That is why military training is so important to them.       The house of Aris rose to power by using their military tactics to win the Battle of the Throne. Before the capital was established, when the school was founded, there was no royal family. Unrest was brewing among the people, and the house of Aris was pulled into the conflict unwillingly. Yet, they took on the challenge, and young Robert Aris became the tactical mind of his generation. His clever strategies helped him win every battle, and he was crowned king of Chadal. At first, he didn’t seek the crown; the people chose him.       Even to this day, the Aris family remains the only family to have ruled Chadal.

The Royal Family Military Training Tradition

Among the royal family, it is shameful to lack skills in combat, leadership, or military tactics. Therefore, the royal family begins learning military strategy and self-defense at a young age. When the children turn fifteen, they are sent to Merana - School for knights and soldiers to begin their training. All are expected to have spent at least five years there. After graduation, some of them serve in the military for their entire lives or for a specific period.

The Royal Crest

The royal family's crest is used by Merana - School for knights and soldiers to highlight the importance of the royal family in founding the school and to commemorate the people of Chadal from the royal families. Chadal's military and knights also employ the crest. The main difference between the royal family and others is the background color; sometimes, the royal family uses red instead of the traditional orange.       Beneath the royal family's personal crest, they display the family's motto, Mind and Cleverness, always handwritten and applied by sewists or professional metalworkers. Additionally, they occasionally incorporate a hidden raven to symbolize their cleverness.

The Capital Aris

The capital city of Chadal, known as Aris, is named after the esteemed royal family that has ruled the region for centuries. The capital's names honor its first monarch, Robert Aris, who took the throne after the legendary Battle of the Thrones. In the center of Aris, a grand statue stands tall, depicting King Robert in a regal pose and serving as a symbol of his legacy and significance in Chadal's history.       Adding to its charm, the capital is conveniently close to Merana, a prestigious school for knights and soldiers. During holidays and weekends, it's common to see students from Merana exploring the city's attractions, enjoying the lively atmosphere, and immersing themselves in the local culture. The connection between the school and the capital creates a special relationship, allowing students to experience the vibrant life of the capital, Aris.

The Next in Line for the Throne

The next in line for the throne of Chadal is whoever the current ruler designates as their heir. It does not have to be the firstborn child. The heir could be any one of the current rulers' children. Sometimes there is a test among the children of the royal family if the ruler cannot decide on their own—this test and the challenge of the mind.       Upon the death of the current ruler, the heir ascends to the throne, marking the beginning of a highly anticipated and elaborate coronation ceremony in the capital city of Aris. This grand event spans an entire month, filled with vibrant festivities that unite the whole kingdom of Chadal. The coronation is an extraordinary spectacle, beginning with a series of jubilant festivals that celebrate the heir’s new role. Each day, the streets of Aris come alive with colorful parades featuring musicians, dancers, and performers in traditional attire, drawing crowds from every corner of the kingdom.       A show of military might accompanies the celebrations, as soldiers from the Chadal army (Chadals Armé), resplendent in their uniforms, salute the new ruler in a formal procession. This is complemented by a dramatic display of naval power, with ships in the harbor firing celebratory cannon salutes that echo across the bay, underscoring the gravity and joy of the occasion.       In the weeks that follow, the new ruler embarks on a grand tour of Chadal, visiting every city, village, and town. This journey not only allows the ruler to meet their subjects but also reinforces unity within the realm. Each stop on the tour features local celebrations where communities showcase their rich cultures, from culinary delights to traditional arts, and welcome their new leader with open arms.       The coronation culminates in a magnificent final festival back in Aris, where the streets are adorned with banners and flowers, and the atmosphere is electric with excitement. Here, in the heart of the capital, the new ruler is officially crowned in a ceremony that blends ancient traditions with the hopes and aspirations of the people. Fireworks light up the sky, music fills the air, and all remember the celebration as a pivotal moment in Chadal’s history.

Famous Battles and Wars

The Battle at Mizigral Forest

One significant historical event is the intense battle that unfolded in the expansive Mizigral Forest, known as Anfallet i Mizigral skogen (The Battle at Mizigral Forest). This confrontation arose when the ambitious Kired sought to obliterate the prestigious Merana - School for Knights and Soldiers, viewing it as a threat to his reign.       The battle, marked by its fierce skirmishes and strategic maneuvering, culminated in a decisive victory for the newly appointed General Nicolaus Mizigral. It was his bold, innovative tactics that turned the tide in his favor, earning him respect and admiration from his peers and subordinates alike. In recognition of his triumph, the forest later adopted his name, solidifying his legacy in military history.       Today, the strategies implemented by General Mizigral during this pivotal encounter continue to be revered and taught at the Merana School, inspiring a new generation of knights and soldiers to adopt his methods of warfare and instilling principles of bravery and strategic thinking in their training.

The Seven-Year Navy War

One of the most renowned conflicts in the history of Chadal is the Seven-Year Navy War, a tumultuous struggle that reshaped the nation’s military and political landscape. This protracted war was ignited by the ambitions of a corrupt military leader who sought to usurp control over the Chadals Armé (Chadal's Army) for personal gain. As tensions escalated, Prince Valdermar Aris, a skilled naval captain with a keen strategic mind, found himself thrust into the heart of the conflict.       Throughout the war, which raged for seven relentless years, Prince Valdermar exhibited unparalleled leadership and innovative military tactics. His deep understanding of naval warfare, coupled with his exceptional seamanship, enabled him to outmaneuver and outsmart his adversaries, even in the chaotic, treacherous waters where most of the battles took place.       The Seven-Year Navy War became a defining moment in Chadal’s history, with epic naval battles unfolding under the fury of stormy skies and amidst the crashing waves. The sea itself became a battlefield, with fierce ship-to-ship clashes that often destroyed vessels, leaving countless shipwrecks littering the ocean floor. To this day, remnants of those vessels can still be spotted beneath the surface along the picturesque coastlines of Chadal, serving as haunting reminders of the intense struggles fought for sovereignty and honor. Prince Valdermar emerged victorious, not only preserving the integrity of the Chadal navy but also solidifying his legacy as a formidable leader and protector of his people.
