Wizards are defined by their exhaustive study of magic’s inner workings. They cast spells of explosive fire, arcing lightning, subtle deception, and spectacular transformations. Their magic conjures monsters from other planes of existence, glimpses the future, or forms protective barriers. Their mightiest spells change one substance into another, call meteors from the sky, or open portals to other worlds. Most Wizards share a scholarly approach to magic. They examine the theoretical underpinnings of magic, particularly the categorization of spells into schools of magic.
Wizards in
Aurelia are most common in the city
Twelve Towers. A magocracy that funds all sorts of magical research and study. Other places of study for Wizards include an university in
Amara's Seat, a school for Necromancy in
Obsidian Tomb run by the Archlich ruling over the area and the Royal Academy in the
Kingdom of Elenath that trains wizard officers for its military.
Abjurer
The abjurer focuses on the study of spells that block, banish, or protect. They learn how to create powerful wards and to banish harmful spritis from other realms. Any abjurer who wishes to master their study will at some point arrive at the Abjuration Institute of
Twelve Towers Wizardry University, where the study of abjuration is pushed to its limits by the archmages, professors and students. Another group of powerful abjurers can be found among the
Zartkik Clans.
Diviner
Diviners specialize in the collection of knowlegde and information of the past, present, and future. They are an inquisitive bunch that often study the divine as many of their powers are enabled by the gods of
Aurelia. Most diviners worship or at least invoke
Tq'qal, Goddess of Divination. Many diviners are trained and practice their craft and her temples. The largest temple to Tq'qal can found in
Titanstone Summit. In
Twelve Towers diviners are trained at the Divination Institute.
Evoker
Evokers focus on the study and research of evocation spells. Most of these spells cause powerful elemental destruction in the form of searing flames, freezing cold or thunderous lightning. Evokers have a reputation to be agents of chaos and many Aurelians have a story to tell of an evoker destroying something. In
Twelve Towers the Institute of Evocation is situated in a tower on the outskirts of the city as it is surrounded by chaotic training fields scarred by many evocations. The wizards of the
Ios Covenant are known across
Aurelia for their mastery of ice evocation spells.
Illusionist
Illusionists use their spells to create fantastical images and immitate anything they wish projecting it into the world. The most powerful among them can even make their illusions real for a time. Illusionists often learn their craft at the Ark Institute for the Practice and Study of Illusions of
Twelve Towers Wizardry University. The second most famous place for their illusion wizards are the circus troups traveling the
Crystal Plane and
Glimmering Orchards.
Necromancer
Wizards who master spells related to life and death are called Necromancers. Necromancy is viewed with suspicion in some parts of
Aurelia, but well respected in most places. At least as long as they use their powers for the good of their communities. The Necromancy Department at the
Twelve Towers Wizardry University is the second largest gathering of necromancers in
Aurelia. The largest gathering of necromancers can be found in
University of Necromancy in
Obsidian Tomb, where several hundred necromancers begin their studies every year.
