Almost the same as a human but a touch more feral, with the exception of their shifting abilities.

Biological Traits

All shifters have supernatural, biological ability to tap into the latent curse of their lycanthropic heritage at least once a day to shift into a more feral, animalistic state that gives them enhanced abilities. They also have a slightly tougher hide than humans providing them with some natural protection from the environment.

Most shifters avoid other races and large settlements. Most of them can be found in small clans and villiages along frontier lands or in deep wilderness regions isolated and secluded from the outside world.

Almost exclusively carnivores, herbs and vegetables are mostly used in a medicinal capacity.

Same as a human.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Almost human, but just a little more feral.

Average Intelligence

Shifters often seem to be just slightly less intelligent than the average human. Their culture is very earthy and not often literate. Note that they are not considered to be learning impaired; but rather that the lifestyle of their people leads more to developing instinctual and physical abilities than those of memorizing and recalling facts and lore.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Same as a human in their base from, when shifted their abilities vary.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Lycanthropy is a terrible and destructive curse and burden not just to the community around the cursed individual, but to that individual them-self. Most communities and cultures will immediately execute anyone discovered to be afflicted with it, indeed many times suspicion alone is enough. Most shifters would not argue that the mobs of villagers are entirely wrong, yet those poor cursed folk who die that way, not to mention those who escaped the mobs to live as an outcast drifter, often left behind family who went on to found the original shifter bloodlines. And the average villager isn't educated or concerned enough to know the difference between the two. Every year there are rumors of whole villiages discovered to be afflicted with the curse and "cured," sometimes the tales are even true; most often though, the shifter community is left to grieve the loss of their own.
This conflict of views defines life for most shifters and their clans. Understanding the fear that humans have for them while also resenting the needless violence committed in the name of that fear. How they resolve this conflict varies from community to community and from one individual and another, some are rabidly opposed to the existence of lycanthropes and become the most dedicated hunters of their kind, while others develop an empathy for the poor souls afflicted with the curse and become sanctuaries for them. Regardless of their view of the actual lycanthrope cursed, all shifters harbor a deep distrust of all other races.

History

Shifters are believed to be a very young race, but with their devotion to avoiding outsiders it is impossible to be entirely certain; few shifter communities track their history further back that its own founding. All that is truly known about them is that they are not lycanthropes themselves, unless they contract the curse from an external source during their life, and their shifting ability is a biological feature of the race.
