Guildmaster

Qualifications

A guildmaster must demonstrate great cunning and formidable aptitude in one or more of the basic thief skills.  The more skilled you are, the more likely it is the lower ranks will respect your status.

Appointment

A guildmaster is usually chosen by popular acclaim amongst guild members.  The current guild leader can be challenged to a thieves' duel, and the winner will be appointed as the leader of the guild, although if the winner is new to the position, they will have to prove their acumen.

Duties

The Guildmaster must oversee the operations not only of their own guild but also that of the myriad other factions.  Even though the different branches operate independently, the master must maintain contact and post contracts for those that escaped capture or assassination by a different branch.   In addition, the head of the guild must maintain the vast intelligence network as many depend on that information.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Guildmaster may be challenged to single combat in a thieve's duel where the two combatants play a cat and mouse game where the winner must subdue or kill their opponent.      There can also be a call for a vote of no confidence during a thieves' conclave, but those are so rare tha assassination or death from old age is more likely.
