Braenagar Kingdom

Structure

Braenagar is led by the current monarchal head and their advisors.
Below them are the Ceanns (Clan Heads), who oversee their individual territories and report any problems to the crown.
Within each clan Ceanns are followed by their seconds, who assist the Ceann in maintaining both inter-clan relations and internal affairs.
The Islands to the East and Northwest of the Braenagar Peninsula are territories of Braenagar, but have their own internal hierarchy.
The two closest islands to the West of Braenagar, along the Malerai coast, are also independent territories, which frequently switch between being under Brae and Malvein purview

First settlers

Establishment of first town

Establishment of first ‘fiefdom'

Smaller towns needed the protection of a ‘bigger fish’, and thus would offer their services to someone with a small private militia or one with excellent leadership/organizational skills, creating a Carafad. If the Ceann began to abuse their authority, the peasants would either move to a better Carafad, or entreat a neighboring Ceann to depose the abuser so a new one could be instated. It was considered an honor to have peasants from another Carafad move to yours, or be asked for assistance, and thus most kept themselves in line.

First civil war

A trio of Ceanns (Myrkhoyl, Helvyrd, Jarys) banded together to wrest control of the land from the rest. However, through sabotaged supply lines, organized militias, and infighting of the instigators, the campaign lasted less than 5 months.

Appointment of first Chief

With the encroachment of parties to the south, it was agreed that all Carafads needed to merge in some way to defend their land. In amongst their deliberations, several clans were almost eliminated, and Clan 6 was completely wiped out. With the situation now dire, negotiations were dropped and they appointed a head Ceann Cinnidh. Clan 6 lands become managed by a council of 5 in respect to the family that was wiped out.

Chiefdom becomes monarchy, and Braenagar as a country is established

With the last four Ceann Cinnidh being from the same family (Clan 15), and repeated greater pressure from the south, the leadership was solidified into a monarchy, ensuring a solid government structure to push out further attacks. Densyl made capitol city.

Second civil war

(8 generations after country establishment) An illegitimate brother of the Queen attempted to take power, and succeeded in getting over a third of the country to back him. Unfortunately, that third only included a quarter of the military (mainly in the naval units), and thus the division was stuck at a stalemate for over 8 months, with major skirmishes run the entire time. The conflict itself lasted a year and 4 months, and ended when the instigator was captured and executed upon his declaration of continuing his efforts.

Death of original monarchy line

(3 generations after second civil war) The original monarchy died with no heir, leading to three closest related clan heads getting into a short ‘scuffle’ to determine the next king (Clans Vellir, Helvyrd, and Kreikyn). Kreikyn came out on top with the backing of over a third of the remaining clans, realizing that he would be the best choice of the three. The original family lands were passed to the third-born (second abdicated), and the head and his immediate family moved to the lands gifted to the new monarchy (original clan 6 lands), declaring the newly-renamed Kirkyn as the new capitol city. South section of land traded to Malerai (under Holsteiner power) in exchange for arbitration/treaty negotiation and staving off Sukwolf. New border (seen on current maps) instituted.

Third civil war

(5 generations after new monarchy line) A large offshoot of citizens decided they no longer wanted to live under a monarchy, and pushed an effort to depose the crown. Their movement was stopped by both the monarchy and other citizens when it was revealed that a rather immoral individual was behind things, intending to set himself up as sole dictator. This is when the mandate for military training for all of-age males was set in place, with the reasoning that citizens that were better trained were less likely to be able to be forced into being conscripts by amoral individuals.

Reign of Cinaed

(4 generations from 3rd civil war) Cinaed inherited the throne after the death of his father (who passed 6 months after his wife, both from illness), leaving him king at age 17 Marriage of Cinaed and Ciara (year after) While the two of them had been betrothed for close to two years when the crown passed, closing negotiations were hastened in order to bring a bit more security to the throne. There have been no children as of yet, but slight pressure is felt to ensure the lineage. Time of Axinite's Arc (3 years after marriage)

Demography and Population

Braenagar is a moderately populated kingdom, with settlements being 10-15 miles apart from each other on average.
Cities are either clan capitals or developed as economic or religious hubs.
The largest city is the Kingdom Capital, Kyrkin, at a population of 82,000, with the second runner being only half the size at 42,000, the previous Seat of the Crown, Densyl.

Territories

The Kingdom of Braenagar owns the lands of the Braenagar Peninsula, the Islands to the East and the island to the Northwest. On occasion, the two closest islands to the West along the Malerai coast are under the Brae flag. The islands are under Braenagar in regard to being protected by the crown's military and following regulations of Brae law when trading with the mainland, but are otherwise "live and let live" with their own internal structure and hierarchy.

Military

Braenagar has a strong crown funded military for international disputes, protection, and defence of the Crown. Clans have their own militia who handle most enforcement of the laws within a region.

Religion

Devout to Lunate, Braenagar was blessed with stability and an uncanny ability to return to order despite numerous civil wars.
During the Sun Raids, many of Lunates temples across Vimtalogos were burned or otherwise destroyed. Though Lunate is seen as the shunned god following the raids, Braenagar's history of being extremely superstitious, maintaining temples even after the Kefadi they're related to is forgotten or disappeared, they managed to maintain having standing temples to Lunate and remain under his banner. Many under scrutiny for worshipping Lunate flee to Braenagar as a result.

When it comes to the worship of the Kefadi, Braenagar has temples to every deity they are aware of the existence of, and even some to those they don't.
Despite this, there are some who are more commonly iconized within the homes of the common Brae citizen. These are the Kefadi who are more active in the culture of Braenagar: Iskotew, Barran, Tam, Delmar, Shadix, and Zanzyn.

Agriculture & Industry

Braenagar notably leads Vimtalogos in production of quality copper, but this is not their only export.

Legislative Body
Legislation is a combination of the Ceanns and the Kingdom Monarch.
This may be from the monarch noticing a problem and addressing it personally via decree, or by an issue brought to attention by one of the Ceanns.
Judicial Body
The Judiciary System is a tier list from Town Magistrate for petty squabbles, to the City, Clan, and Crown Courts in increasing order of severity. Should a petition top out this chain, the monarch themselves may pass a final judgement.
Any individual can bring a case before any level of the courts, but fines are often levied if a case could have been handled by a lower court and was skipped.
