The Free Nations of Elos

There couldn't be two more opposite places in the world that exist so close to one another than the cities of Klifhaus and West Port on the main island of Elos.   To the North in the windy, desolate mountain ranges lies the cliff top city of Klifhaus. Settled by a group of exiled nobles from Drokaro, Klifhaus was built on an overlook that faces out from the center of the Norde Bay. This bay is lined on either side with high cliff walls that are slammed by fast winds, large waves and cold weather. The weather made for harsh living and only the most resolute survived to establish the first town that would become Klifhaus.   The southern cliff ranges from the city of Klifhaus itself and follows the mountains that make up the Gravian Spine all the way north to Gearsholm. There is a small trade road that winds through the narrow edge between the foot of the mountain range and the cliffside. Most traders risk the winds and rain rather than take the old roads that lead through the Spine and up near Reinhaldt.   West Port on the southern tip of the massive island is a bustling metropolitan city that invited anyone of any race to come and experience its incredible culture and weather. Once facing a terrible embargo upon the waters around its territory, the leaders of West Port rallied its people to create a great canal to the west that would allow them to circumnavigate their way past pirates and brigands that patrolled the waters near Ablegarth. It wouldn't be until this canal was finished and trade flowed into West Port once again would the people of Ablegarth ask for assistance clearing their waters. Thus began the long and prosperous alliance of these two cities and the formation of the province of Verbunde.
