the Otherworld

Home of the Fey, the Otherworld is a constantly-shifting realm woven of Gheástr and ruled by two opposing Courts.

Localized Phenomena

Time Slip

Time within the Otherworld passes entirely differently than outside of it. More detail than this is difficult to ascertain; those within it experience time as passing in a linear fashion and at a regular pace, but there seems to be little correlation between time perceived within the Otherworld and time actually spent there. One individual can spend what feels like a night in the Otherworld and discover years have passed when they awaken; another can live out a lifetime in the Otherworld and return to find no time having passed at all.

Fauna & Flora

The Otherworld supports a huge diversity of both plant and animal life, as well as some creatures that could be considered both or neither. While many species found in the Otherworld closely resemble those on the Asalian side of the veil, a comparable number are unlike anything found elsewhere. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the closer one is to a crossing point, the more mundane the ecology of the Otherworld becomes; similarly, the deeper one ventures into the Otherworld, the less recognizable they find its environment.

History

For unknown eras prior to the arrival of the Cuédleür in Ðiéithtír, the Otherworld was governed by the Court of Fey, a unified ruling body that handled all matters of Fey justice. Cuédleür mythology suggests it was this Court who provided aid when they first settled in the area, though not all Fey were in agreement with this course of action. This led to a conflict which fractured the Court of Fey into two opposing factions, the Oak Court and the Holly Court, who govern the Otherworld in seasonal turns to this day.
