Royal Empala College of Arcane Arts

Structure

The headmaster is appointed directly by the Mages' Guild, who are the owners of the facility. The current headmaster is Merrelwyn, who also happens to be a chief advisor of the king.   The school itself is divided into 3 distinct wings; wizadry, druidcraft and sorcery. These wings are governed by a dean, who oversees the curriculum and other staff. The dean of druidcraft is Professor Ella Leafbound, the dean of Sorcery is Professor Kimitrus Valadras and the dean of wizadry is Professor Eldric Magnas. Leafbound is the newest addition to the team, a quiet and level headed wood elf introduced to the college by Merellwyn. Valadras is an eccentric gnome hailing from Arcanelle, who is passionate about finding the best talent amongst his students. Magnas is a human wizard who's focus is often on the theory behind the arcane, and he is known to berate even the most talented student if he deems their studying habits unsatisfactory. Beneath them are the lecturers and tutors, each specialising in a different school of magic (e.g evocation, enchantment, etc).   Students are not only divided into their respective schools of arcane arts, but also into houses; Mephit, Zaratan and Pheonix. Mephit, named after imp-like elementals. Much like the creatures themselves, the students in this house can vary greatly, but all have a tendency towards mischief and often care little for theory, much preferring the practical side of their education. This is likely the reason that many esteemed Mephit wizards find themselves in Arcanelle after graduating. Zaratan, like their namesake, tends to be far more reserved and relaxed, preferring to study by themselves. However, when provoked, prove to be some of the most fierce and passionate spellcasters to ever graduate the college. Their quiet and polite demeanour makes them suited for roles in Arcadia, though many go on to become advisers or personal assistants to noble families. Spellcasters from Pheonix tend to be the most ambitious and fiery students in the college. They tend to have great talent and great confidence to match, and become great leaders in the development of arcane technologies. However, their more aggressive demeanour can often get them in trouble, with the majority of arcane practitioners prosecuted being from Pheonix. However, these houses are not definitive measures of character. They are assigned by an aptitude, but there are many loud students in Zaratan, mischief makers in Pheonix and more reserved types in Mephit. Even the teachers are assigned a house, with Leafbound in Zaratan, Valadras in Mephit and Magnas in Pheonix.

History

The Royal Empala College is by far the largest educational institute founded by the Mage's Guild. The College has been the go-to institute for any noble wishing to study the arcane. It has a long history of churning out some of the most successful and famous mages in the kingdom. The most notable recent event was the the promotion of Merrelwyn to headmaster. This move was quite controversial for many reasons; firstly, though she was an ex-student who studied wizadry, Merrelwyn's talents lay mainly in druidcraft. Secondly, she was one of the lowest status students to ever attend the college. However, she quickly proved her arcane prowess and was appointed by Jonad himself. Merrelwyn has installed several revolutionary initiatives in the college, including a new teaching wing specifically for druids, and a scholarship program to allow for students of lower social status to attend. This was certainly an unpopular move with the College's traditional, noble clientele. However, it wasn't long before disaster struck. An esteemed scholar was found dead within the walls of the College under completely mysterious circumstances. The King's Hand were sent to investigate, though their official statement claimed they had not found the killer nor the motive. Many of the students (and their noble parents) blamed Merrelwyn and the new, lower-class students.
