Tenets of Faith
Meeryln is at her most primary, a Goddess that values hard work, bravery and fair dealing. She is far less concerned than most of the New Gods in matters of simple charity. Hers is a harsh code. Her ideals of charity can be summed up in the common fisherman’s proverb:
“A catch which is freely given is freely wasted”
and it’s corollary:
”No soul ever learned to sail, without being given a hand aboard.”
That is to say to Meerlynites, charity is best given through the opportunity to better oneself through honest work and trade.
Meeryln is also among the more bellicose of the Gods, and wrathful. Her followers make up the great bulk of the Inquisition’s Naval personnel and contribute the bulk of its ships and material. She is loved by marines and sailors, who seek her protection from both storms and piracy. Though Meeryln looks most favourably on those whom hunt pirates themselves and dare to fight against looters and plunderers in all their form. Meeryln smiles equally on honest merchants, fair traders, kindly (but strict) managers and hard workers.
Meeryln naturally detests above all else those whom engage in thievery, piracy and sea raiding. Likewise, she holds enmity to cheats, fraudsters, charlatans and others whom make deals in bad faith.
Holidays
The Feast of Meeryln
The Feast of Meeryln occur during the height of the Meerylsayn, the midsummer month. It is a day to celebrate water and share it freely. Whole communities swim and bathe communally on this day, either in nearby waters or bathhouses, where none are present communities have been known to set up their own swimming pools for the celebration. It’s a welcome respite from the summer heat. In the evening meals of fish and other seafood are prepared communally or by the local temple. This is in fact often the only fish some inland and Dwarven communities will consume in a year. After the feasts, the temples and those faithful are encouraged to spend some hours of quiet meditation in celebration and honour of Meeryln. Fishing communities also ceremoniously release captive fry back into the sea or rivers to repopulate.
The Feast of St. Wren
The Chief Saint and First Prophetess of Meeryln, St. Wren of Illanthane, also known St. Wren Stormrider or Waverider. The Feast of St. Wren is a minor celebration during Seedbreak. It is mostly a temple day. Where faithful of Meeryln gather to honour St. Wren, through retelling her stories, lighting candles beneath her icons and pardoning reformed pirates. It is prohibited for civil authorities to execute pirates on this day.
Divine Goals & Aspirations
Like the rest of the New Gods, Meeryln's primary concern is the protection of the mortal realm from the return of the Old Gods. When she can focus on other elements of her divine patronages, she concerns herself with the promotion of harmonious trade and friendship between the Covenantal Nations.
